Just throwing this poll out here in the hopes that it will help us pick a book. After we figure out what types of books we want to read, then we can throw out titles.
Edit--I clicked "public poll" by accident and I can't change it! Sorry guys! Hopefully this won't be a problem...
Edit #2--Oh! You can vote for more than one choice!! :)

i chose a couple, but I chose other, as well. i'm not sure if mystery and suspense are the same thing... I think of suspense as like Dean Koontz and mystery I have stuck in my head as little kid nancy drew type boks, but I guess its all the same.

LOL, that's what I did :huge: . Honestly, i like a bit of everything; though i do occasionally get stuck in a chick lit or classics rut.

We'll see how my schedule works out to do this, but I'm down to try it out, especially if it's a light book or anything that can easily draw me in (I have a short attention span but am easily amused!).

I would love to get back into some good fiction. Normally I read for fun all the time, but lately I have been buried in pregnancy/baby care books whenever I get a spare moment. I think my brain has absorbed all of that type information that it can for the time being, I'm ready for something a little less reference-y to read now!

wow this awsome! I picked non fiction (current issues) as my first choice. I have never read chick lit so I dont mind that either.
But I am finishing another book right now.

Tina, I swear you pick up after me all the time now! LOL
Okay, perhaps I should close the poll on Wednesday?
EDIT--I modified the poll so that it closes 7 days after it started. When it's closed, we'll start compiling a list of books we'd like to read. Sound good?

Well, in my RL book club, we choose a book and set a date (usually about a month out) to meet and talk about it. Are we going to do this through email? I feel like it would be more private that way. Thoughts????

Amy, good suggestion. Maybe we could set up a Yahoo group (you don't have to have a Yahoo email, btw) and call it "QLC book club" or something like that. I'd have no problem setting it up, except I'm not good at figuring out the problems. Another Yahoo group I belong to is having trouble with all of the members seeing the posts, unless everyone is a moderator. It's weird.

Are we uncomfortable having a thread for each book we read? Sure, it's not private, but does it need to be?
And, I've got some suggestions for books (c'mon, you knew I was gonna). I went on a bookstore run this weekend---aaaaaah, heaven. (BTW, I'm not pushing for any of these books, just tossing them out there as ideas. It won't hurt my feelings if we choose something else.)
Anyway, ideas:
Helen of Troy (http://www.amazon.com/Helen-Troy-Margaret-George/dp/0670037788/sr=1-1/qid=1157475420/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8&s=books) by Margaret George. A little weighty, so perhaps not, but it looks interesting and I enjoy reading MG novels.
The Girls: A Novel. (http://www.amazon.com/Girls-A-Novel-Lori-Lansens/dp/0316069035/sr=1-1/qid=1157475578/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8&s=books) Looks interesting. It's about conjoined twins, with parts written from the perspective of each twin. Could be neat.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0143037145/ref=pd_cp_b_title/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8) Looks very Oprah-book-clubish, but interesting anyway.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. (http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Flower-Secret-Fan-Novel/dp/0812968069/ref=pd_sim_b_2/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8) Shortish, chick-lit, historical fiction. Could be fun.
I Know You're Out There. (http://www.amazon.com/Know-Youre-Out-There-Humiliations/dp/0307338096/sr=1-1/qid=1157475720/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8&s=books) Funny book written by a personals editor. Short, cute, interesting, with laugh out loud moments. I picked it up on a whim because of the catchy title.
Blink. (http://www.amazon.com/Blink-Power-Thinking-Without/dp/0316010669/sr=1-2/qid=1157475874/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8&s=books) Malcolm Gladwell. Looks neat and I intend to read it anyway, but would be fun to discuss ideas about it. (I have already read The Tipping Point, and it could be a fun group book as well.)
Freakonomics. (http://www.amazon.com/Freakonomics-Economist-Explores-Hidden-Everything/dp/006073132X/sr=1-1/qid=1157475908/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8&s=books) Again, this seems like it would be really fun to discuss as part of a group.

Nice job WIP! I don't think it has to be private and if Jessie and I are both in the club, we can get rid of anyone trying to be smart-asses in the group's threads.
Haven't heard of this one...nor the author!
The Girls: A Novel. (http://www.amazon.com/Girls-A-Novel-Lori-Lansens/dp/0316069035/sr=1-1/qid=1157475578/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8&s=books) Looks interesting. It's about conjoined twins, with parts written from the perspective of each twin. Could be neat.
A co-worker read this and LOVED it. I would be up for reading this!
The Memory Keeper's Daughter. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0143037145/ref=pd_cp_b_title/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8) Looks very Oprah-book-clubish, but interesting anyway.Yeah, I'd read this, just to see what all of the hype is about, lol.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. (http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Flower-Secret-Fan-Novel/dp/0812968069/ref=pd_sim_b_2/102-3840034-6255331?ie=UTF8) Shortish, chick-lit, historical fiction. Could be fun.I had a free copy of this from the publisher and I got rid of it. IDIOT!
I read The Memory Keeper's Daughter . It was decent.
Hey I think it's awesome you guys are doing this! If you decide on nonfiction I highly recommend the Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz. Also, David Rakoff is hilarious - possibly even funnier than David Sedaris.
