I must say that, regardless of what you think of the candidates, those 30-second spots they did just for that debate were rather stupid and pointless. I was really embarassed for Wesley Clark when he said in his ad that he does not think that Outkast will break up. I don't care if you know what bands our age group listens to. And the worst thing is, he probably had that line fed to him anyway.
Those Ads were quite f-ing dorky - good call.
Obvious bias, but I thought Kerry's was the closest to what those ads were intended - the DEAN, KUCINICH ones with the techno music - WOW! LAME...
Jon Stewart said "whoever thought Howard Dean would make me want to drop Ecstacy?!"
The worst AD was LIEBERMAN. I'm gonna be SO 2000 and start calling him LOSERMAN from now on. He's just lame - please move on.
But in re to Clark, I think the OUTKAST thing was obvioulsy meant to be a joke - totally tounge in cheek. Can't take it seriously. He has a teenage son - I think it was a dare with some of his friends ("Dude, get your Dad to say that he doesn't think OUTKAST will break up - that would be so f-ing TIGHT!)

They remind me of Dr. Evil trying to relate to Scott in Austin Powers. "I'm hip to the lingo, homey."
In fact I can't really think of anyone in politics who is really cool. Like rock star cool. Clinton had potential but was far from cool. Look at Bono, the more political he gets, the less cool he gets. You'd almost have to be a grassroots type activist to be cool in politics. Like an Abbie Hoffman (google it if you don't know who he is).
Being in the media field I know how expensive a 30 second spot is. Seems like they should have spent that money elsewhere. Were there any candidates who didn't do one? They'd be worth considering.
The Candidates didn't pay to run those ads - we saw them as part of the bumpers on the Anderson Cooper 360 Rock The Vote debate that was on CNN this past week. There will be a re-broadcast on CNN on Sunday Morning.
I hope more people watch it and come to a more informed conclusion on the candidates.
Trying to appeal to young people is such a waste of time for politicians. Most young people don't know, or don't care about politics. Only when they get older and face the horror of adult life and damage bad politicians such as Bush can do, does even an dull, buzzing, brown light of interest start to be seen.
But they should at least try to appeal to young people and get them interested in politics, no matter how lame and "DAD-esque" it feels.
How has Bush and the GOP tried to appeal to young people?
ANSWER: Cut the amount of Pell grant money for people who want to go to college, then strangle a job market (that is admittedly making snail's pace growth) for young graduates who have HUGE loans, but ZERO job prospects.
Then tell you that you're lazy, stupid - or BOTH because you can't find a job. And you're told this by a President who has NEVER had to look for a job himself, not even ONCE.
