So, I was just told to basically not leave my desk throughout the day. This is due to two parents saying that I didn't pick up when they called. Well, god forbid I have to go to the bathroom, or want to get something to eat or drink. Is it really necessary for me to be chained to my desk for 8 hours straight. That is ridiculous. I need a new job.

Thats awful! Don't people understand the concept of voicemail? Is it illegal to make someone stay in one place all day? Thats like slavery. I'm sorry Abbey.

Nobody should be forced to sit at a desk for 8+ hours straight without a stretch break or a walk every now and then. It's actually hazardous to your health. You need to be able to take breaks. I think it actually helps with productivity if you're allowed to take a short walk or clear your thoughts and then get back to work. I guess it also depends on the kind of work you are doing, though.

How is the search going? Have you ever tried getting a headhunter or going to a placement agency? I can help you out if you want.

Um...I would tell your supervisor that. And if you get fired, you:

a) shouldn't have any problem getting unemployment benefits (since it's illegal for an employer to refuse to let you go to the bathroom all day), and

b) could bring one heck of a lawsuit against your current employer, particularly if you have documentation to back you up (i.e., were you told not to leave your desk in an e-mail, or was an e-mail detailing the conversation sent to you after this reprimand)
