The last two days I have felt awful. Slightly achy, scratchy throat, congested, exhausted, chilled...I think I can attribute it to allergies and the change in seasons...but I just wanted a few hours of sleep this morning! I was tempted to call and say I would be late, but I have a sales appt. at 10am. Also, I only ever called in sick once (to take the Praxis) and I don't want my boss to think I am making it a habit.
Regardless, I feel that I have too much work to be out sick, since my sales partner moved to a new department and I am doing the job of two people...annnd there are no plans to hire a new rep. Do you guys ever feel like that? That calling in sick is just not an option at all?

I feel ya, my sinuses have been all sorts of pissed off lately.....stupid seasonal allergies.
My coworkers don't know how to do the majority of my job, and generally have little knowledge of the day-to-day goings-on, so I rarely take a day off, and when I do, I can't relax and enjoy it cuz I'm feeling guilty the whole time. I have a couple weeks of vacation time just sitting there, and I can't see myself ever being able to take more than a day or 2 of it at a time. I can't imagine the chaos if I took an entire week!

I would kill for a "couple of weeks" of vacation time left!
I know what you mean about being the only one that knows how to do your job. Since my ex sales partner left the department, I am currently the only one who knows anything about what I do. Sucks, because how the heck am I supposed to take a day off? Ugh.
workaholic?

i feel that way a lot of times. i left work yesterday a little early (but actually it was about an hour later than the time i could have left) because i threw up the very little i'd had to eat yesterday. and then i went home, and i proceeded to throw up 7 more times at home. i finally fell asleep and woke up this morning thinking i felt okay, but by the time i had gotten dressed and was ready to leave i felt crappy again. i know i'm extremely dehydrated because i threw up everything i had yesterday and haven't been able to keep anything down. my boyfriend said i should call in, but because i agreed to be at a meeting at 10:30 this morning, that wasn't really much of an option. and i know by boss is really okay with us taking our sick time but i also have to have my wisdom teeth out soon and i don't know how many days i'll have to be out for that. Plus I've already used a couple of sick days this year, and I don't want my boss and coworkers to think i'm a freak because i get sick too much.

So, I have to suck it up today and work. There is no going home early for me. I can't take daytime pills (like day quil) because they give me crazy side effects, like a horrible taste in my mouth, and they make me feel like I am all messed up on drugs. What works for you guys? I need something...

Depends what you're feeling. When I'm having cold symptoms I become a tea addict, and that makes me a far more functional person.

Hmmm, I'm about to head out on the road soon so I might grab a cup of tea - it sounds great.
