... for my 1-year anniversary with the girlfriend.

I really have no idea what to do. I mean, dinner seems so cliche, even if it's at a nice place. Should we do something on the weekend or actually wait until the "actual" day(which is a monday)?

Granted, for some reason, I tend to be more romantic than the girlfriend(which is a different rant for a different day)

This is gonna sound kinda dumb coming from a 24-year old, but this is first time I've had a real relationship last an entire year. So I'd like to do something kinda cool for it. Besides, she'll probably be expecting something, and I'd like to deliver, you know?

Thanks.

If you don't want to do dinner out, you could cook her something special in?

Go away for the weekend before the anniversary?

Do something nice and practical for her? Give her a practical gift (if she's not so into fluffy, more romantic stuff)?

You know her, and we don't...what does she like? What does she like to do? If she could have anything or do anything, what would it be?

Get a bunch of flowers. Not roses. Do lillies or some other different flowers. Take her someplace romantic for a sunset picnic. :huge:

Annnd now you know how to win me over.

Be careful with lilies, though...they are veeeeeery smelly.

I've never put much emphasis on anniversaries, I'm generally happy if a guy just remembers, lol.

I'd say that a weekend getaway would be my vote for what to do, and then maybe dinner or something on Monday too. Whatever makes the two of you happy, something fun.

Re-create your first date.

Tonight is a year since my first date with my BF and we went to this place called Margaritas right down the street from me, sadly he is working 2nd shift now so we cant go right from work like we did last year, but when he gets off at 11, we are going to head to the one near him and grab a drink.

Its just a cute way to remember.

As for our one year, we'll probably take a weekend get away somewhere and get one another something small (if I have it my way bwa ha ha)

When my husband and I were dating, and our one-year anniversary came around, I did some cute things. I started exactly a week before the day, and I would drive to his house early in the morning (before he left for work) and "broke in" to his car (I knew where the spare key was hidden). I did the following things (one per day):

- Put 365 Hershey Kisses all over his seat (bad idea, because our anniversary of when we started dating is in JULY. Luckily, he leaves for work at 6:30 so they did not melt everywhere.)
- I put a cute picture of us in a frame and bought him a ton of his favorite candy and left it on the seat of his car
- Made him a mix cd and left it in his car

...there were a few more, but I can't remember them all...on the actual day, I packed up some food and we had a picnic, and I also made him a scrapbook. I know how stupid it all sounds, but it was fun and he loved it!

I am a female who kinda thinks flowers are a waste of money. You could always get a nice cheaper bouquet though at a local grocery. My SO has always taken me shopping to get something I want around anniversary and birthday times. I am also perfectly fine with dinner out stuff. Maybe taking a walk somewhere, or doing a fun activity.

Brings a good point, I'm actually having my 5 year anniversity with my gf. We've had our ups and downs since high school but I want to take another step forward. I'm confused on what to do thou... her birthday is at the end of this month (sept) and our 5 years is at the end of Oct.

Any suggestions???

People would likely throw tomatoes at me if I suggsted a "step forward" that came to mind. So I'll keep quiet.

Whatever you do, I suggest you do it first thing in the morning, like Allie did - then she can enjoy the whole day, instead of wondering for 8+ hours if you remembered it at all.
Things I would think are romantic and thoughtful -
- a limo ride to work, with you
- leaving at least 5 voicemail messages on my work phone with different cheesy love songs, introduced by you
- delivered flowers to work
- dinner out, or a meal cooked by you
- a massage

these are good one-year things, but if you'd been together for longer, or lets say, married (like me), I would be very happy with a "5 things that make your life easier" anniversary package, including grocery shopping, dish-washing, laundry-doing, car cleaning, and meal-making, all done 100% by you, for a week.

Wow, you guys don't split the duties? I'm going to make another thread...

see my response in that thread - - - the above post doesn't imply we don't split duties normally, but that a real treat for an anniversary present would be for me to do NOTHING for a week, and have it ALL done by him. Basically, be my man-slave :huge:

this maybe spelled incorrectly, however i beleive the french call it a "menege-et-trios", hopefully she has a friend that would be into it......

all kididng aside though, i wonder how many people are in a relationship where the guy is more romantic than the girl.
