So I got a job and I'm moving to Long Island, to be closer to my fiancee. She's currently a grad student at Stony Brook and lives on campus.

I need to find some sort of 1 bedroom or studio apartment or house share, or you name it. I'd like to spend $750 max on a place to live, as I'm in the social services field and can't really afford much more.

My job is in Wading River... so I'd like to be somewhere in between Wading River and Stony Brook, if possible.

Any ideas, opportunities... let me know.

Thanks,
Shawn

Well, fortunately, your job is pretty far out east, by Exit 68 of the LIE. You might want to consider Riverhead and that area...it's relatively cheap (at least compared to the rest of the Island), and not too far away (maybe 20-25 minutes, if there's no traffic). If you don't mind living in a seedy town, there's also Mastic and Shirley on the South Shore.

Don't go too far west, though. The William Floyd Parkway seems to be a dividing line, and anything west of there can be really expensive.

Sorry I can't help you. I'm in Long Beach. Where you are going to be is REALLY FAR AWAY from here. I can tell you though that my rent is super-high. It's doable cuz I split it with the fiance.
