I can't wait to turn 28 - all the freedom! I won't have to ask my mom if I can borrow the car, I can show a legal ID when I buy cigaretttes.
OK, so 28 isn't as exciting as 18...I gotta try, right? :)

How do you guys deal with it? I am going to be 28 in less than a year and it is totally freaking me out. I want to rewind 10 years because I am not such a fan of being this old...I liked 16-20 much better than I have liked 20-27. Plus, I am now closer to 50 than I am to 0...that kinda creaps me out too. Someday I might actually be a grown-up.

That happpens to be my seven-year-old sister's birthday also. (I have four sisters, so its always someone's birthday.) Also, March 19 is the birthday for my one-year-old adopted cousin. March 20 is also the first day of spring.

I guess this is the old fogey thread. I'm one year and six months to the big 3-0. I don't feel a day over 21 though - in more ways than one. I think the most significant way is that I STILL don't know what I wanna do with my life -- which means I have NOT officially graduated from my QLC.

I'll be 28 in about a month and a half and I'm not freaking out at all. I'm over the whole getting older thing. I think one main reason is that I still look young (I get carded for lottery tickets). And getting older is just a part of life.
I did think I'd be married by now, but I'm okay with that too. I love being ing my 20s. And I think I'll be okay when I hit 30 as well. But I do know that I never want to relive my teenage years again!

I am one of those people who thought she wouldn't be able to get out of bed the day she turned 25. I did anyway.
I guess I have dealt fairly calmly with gettng older just because I've been so busy in the past few years. I had the worst part of my QLC when I was 22-26. The autumn that I was 22 and the summer I turned 26 were the worst points of it, these really were my major periods of my "crisis." Then, while I was still 26, I met the man I would later marry and found a job closer to him and that I liked better, in a different part of the state. I was really busy with my new relationship, starting my new job, and moving to my new apartment. Then I was engaged and planning my wedding, and one day I woke up and I was 29 and married.

As far as "dealing with it," there's really no dealing with it to be done. Pointless to stress about getting "older," you can't prevent years from passing.
Plus, 28+ isn't exactly old, by any stretch of the imagination. For me, it's particularly not a worry, because when I go out with my sister (who is 23), I'm the one who gets carded, typically.
Age doesn't bother me, the only thing that's a worry is that I do want to have kids, and there's obviously a finite window for that. But I feel like I have buttloads of time for that, even, still. I just don't worry about it.

Actually, I can honestly say that I am much happier, the much older I become. Things have totally started to fall into place, and I have better opportunities available to me in every area. I truly believe that age is a state of mind, and you are only as old as you feel and act.

I concur. Plus if you're worried about 28 then what about 30? 40? 50? Etc.?
I think people get worried about age when they feel that they haven't done anything worthwhile. It's all relative. You do what you can but you can choose to change things or not. The thing to keep in mind is that for many things, not all, it's never too late to do them. I think working against a timeline can lead to unnecessary stress/worry.

Agreed 110%. It's never too late to do anything we want to do. I mean, even having children--some people may not agree, but there are still things like adoption or fostering. And so many people go back to school, or change fields well into their late 30's, 40's and 50's.......even above!

Seriously. There are some things that you WILL run out of time to accomplish (bear children comes to mind). Most things, though, no. People definitely worry about age because they beat themselves up over "what I SHOULD have accomplished by this time in life." Should? Big deal. Accomplish it when you accomplish it. You have till you die, most of the time. I have a book, an autobiography, by a guy who learned how to read when he was 98. Here is a line from it: "I tell people not to worry about things, not to worry about their lives. Things will be all right. People need to hear that. Life is good, just as it is. There isn't anything I would change about my life."

I turned 28 in June. My older brother turned 30 last month and had been freaking out about it since about 27. I definitely take longer to recover after a night on the town, but I've also developed low tolerance for unnecessary drama, improved ability to say "No" (still working on this) and a better idea of what makes me happy. I like my late 20s, and I'm sure I'll love my 30s!

I got relatively freaked out each year on my birthday at 23, 24 and 25. And then at 26 I was like, WTF? I'd love to be 23 again, why was I so worked up? And ever since then my philosophy is that you're never going to get younger and no matter what age you are right now, at some point in the future you'll WISH you could say you were that age again, so you might as well enjoy it.

I enjoy getting older because of the wisdom that I gain every day- the mistakes I know I will not make again; having a bigger "toolbox" to solve problems.
Would I want to be 24...21...18 again? No way. I've learned too much and lived too much to want to give any of it up...for better or worse.

I've heard the same thing.
One reason that springs to mind is that you're more mature/assured and less insecure, as a rule, by the time you reach that stage of life. There's so much adjusting and upheaval in one's twenties, I've heard women say that when they got to their thirties, they were done with all that drama for the most part and didn't have that kind of angst ever again.

That would be me :D. I am basically very comfortable in my own skin now, not so much when I was in my 20's. I cared more about what people thought back then, felt I had to do everything, be everywhere, please everyone.........not so much anymore. I am happy being "selfish", although not in the "mean way". I just choose to put my needs first, and do what makes me happy.

Im 29 .. supposedly on the threshold of the "settled" period of my life, but there is still much upheaval even now. I think that if I got the man and career thing together perhaps this would enable me to build a foundation for being settled... without these 2 things I am kind of drifting all over the place. But perhaps it is because im not done drifting yet.
