My coworker - my junior coworker that I was supposed to watch over so nothing happened to him - has poison ivy from our site visit on Monday - ON HIS FACE.
I feel horrible!
I know it's not my specific responsiblity to make sure he didn't walk into poison ivy, but I still feel badly. Poor kid - it looks like someone slapped him in the face and then maced him.

Um, ick. Maybe send him some "I'm sorry, get well soon" flowers.

He's not actually in the office, is he? If so, he needs to go home.

He IS in the office! I want to send him home, but it's not my call since I'm not the project manager or the HS manager.
I always thought poison ivy showed up sooner, too - we were out on the site on Monday, but he said it just showed up last night...?

I believe when I got it, it took about 2 days.

Sorry, but this is a little funny...
Also, I used to get poison ivy every year - all I had to do was be around it, and no amount of clothing, lotion, anything would prevent it. So, it may not be your fault. And, was it really your job to make sure this person didn't rub his face in the bushes?

Thats kind of funny. (Sorry...) I'm sitting at my desk actually laughing out loud. Call HR or HS, whatever it is, explain to them that this guy has poison ivy on his face and that you think she should go home instead of spread it to other people (if possible?) or just feel terrible at work. I've never had it so I dont know if its contagious. They should then contact this guy and tell him to leave.

Ha. First time I read it I also chuckled a bit. That does suck though he should be home. Send him flowers or give him a get well card.

I got posion ivy on my face when I was younger, I guess if you get it on your hands you can spread the oil to your face. I went to the doctor and got a prescription for a cream that cleared it right up in about 2-3 days.
He should prolly be at home because I do believe it is contagious, though not everyone is allergic to it.

I'm pretty sure it's contagious and I wouldn't be happy knowing that he's at work and has it. I wouldn't be comfortable with it and I have no idea if I'm allergic to poison ivy or oak. The one time my mom thought I got into it, she immediately drug me back to the house and doused my hands, arms, and legs in bleach. But you would think, as much as I ran around in the woods as a kid, that I would have gotten it, but have never had any sort of rash ever, so maybe I'm not allergic. But I sure wouldn't want to test that theory in the workplace.

in a perfect world it would be easy to alwaysstay at home whenever you felt sick, however we don't live in a perfect world and it is not always easy to stay at home, especially if you don't have an understanding boss.

Well, M has successfully survived his run-in with the poison oak. He told me late last week that he dropped his sunglasses at one point, but that he also thinks that we both walked through poison oak. I'm fine (clearly). M's face has gotten a lot less swollen and he's been a really good sport about the whole thing (since every third person is telling him he looks like he's been maced or punched repeatedly). I haven't seen him yet today, but it's been nearly a week, so...
Oh - and as far as being contagious, it isn't. Someone having poison ivy/oak/whatever can not 'give' it to someone else unless they still have the oils on their skin. And seeing as how no one in the office was rubbin' faces with M ( ), I think we're all okay. ;)
