‘I know how to treat a woman’, ‘I’ll wine and dine you’, ‘I am a real man, babe’, etc. be honest all you QLC guys, how many of you have used lines like these to try to get girls? QLC girls, how many of you have been bombarded with these lines? How many of you have bought it at least once? Be honest...

As I sit here numb at work, I started thinking of these cheesy lines and how annoying they can be. Well...not so much annoying as cliche and retarded. If these guys who claim these things are really all about them, then they wouldn't find a need to tell other people this because 'their actions will speak louder than their words'. I cannot recall a single guy who has had success with girls using these lines to try to get them- maybe for a laugh but not really as a way to get them. Anyone agree or disagree?

QLCers, how do you get the opposite (or same--don't want to discriminate) sex to notice you or go out on a date with you?

Another boring day at work so a little fun Q&A session is in order. :huge:
Working on the founder of the Americas day! Sheesh what has this world come to. ha.

How 'bout, "Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by you again?"

"I lost my phone #, can I borrow yours?"

It's not so much that stupid, cliche lines are annoying, it's just uncomfortable, because I'm always so embarrassed for a guy who actually for some reason uses one in earnest.

I'm always afraid I'll laugh in his face. But, I think cheesy lines are funny, so, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad intro, if a guy is either joking or could laugh at himself.

Lovin' the "love at first sight" line, Krishna.

I like it sometimes when a guy uses a cheesy line, and he knows its cheesy, so he's just trying to be funny. Sometimes he comes off as sleezy when doing this, but sometimes it works on me. I've never had a guy actually use a cheesy line more honestly.

Yeah, are we talking jokingly to be funny, or are we talking guys seriously using these lines? Because there's a big difference. Huge.

Exactly. I've never heard one in person from a guy who was being serious. A little kid, yes, but that's different, since he didn't know any better and was being put up to it.

yeah, most guys use these lines jokingly, and i think that's sort of cute.

however, i HAVE heard guys spout the whole 'i know how to treat women' or 'i put my women on a pedestal' speech from guys. normally, they make these claims when drunk, and generally are meatheaded guys who do not seem at all like the types of guys who actually know what it is to respect a woman.

i have a couple of really ditsy friends who fall for this crap, but i feel bad for the guys that they attract.

Consider yourself fortunate. They're usually wearing NASCAR shirts, and the whole experience is painful.

Well, I've gotten the drunken, "you're sooooooo hot," meaning, "you're a girl, I'm a little drunk, and maybe you're drunk enough to let me sleep with you even though I just met you an hour ago" but no, "Did it hurt?" or "Are you tired?" or any of that. Maybe it's because they're too drunk enough to remember the punchline.

Hmm there was a guy once who was hitting on me then proceeded to call me racist (jokingly). Hmmm yea that's going to win my heart!!

On the radio someone was making a suggestion for a pick up line and although cheesy I thought it was soo cute. It goes:

"How much does a penguin weigh?"
"I don't know, how much?"
"Just enough to break the ice. Hi my name is blah blah blah"

That is cute. And something I would actually laugh at. But I kinda like bad jokes too, so that's not really saying much.

Hmm, I think that one's a little too cheesy for me.

I'd rather have one of the goofier/dirtier ones than one like that. Also helps if it's one I havent heard a million times before.

I seriously don't know what it's like to get picked up on/hit on since it's never happened to me before.

I wouldn't know what to think/say if a random guy just came up and talked to me.

In my limited experience, it's generally not so bad. Unless they talk to your boobs. Not fun. Not funny. (Could be funny in a book, though.) Or just assume you're easy because you're tipsy.

My girl friend now, before we were dating and would run into each other out a lot, i was so wasted off my ass and i said something so retarded such as "let me take care of you" or some crap.

I'm not one to use a pick-up line, just somehow get into a conversation with someone i was interested in. She told me this a week or two later and we laughed about it and she said "you're so dumb". I'm like I know, i was drunk & being stupid.

It was in a joking manor, but still dumb..... so it didn't work but being persistent did :)

Oh good lord i've had some odd ones. There's the dudes that start out saying c'mon smile and talk to me (generally ugly toads drunk off their ass); the ones that buy you a drink and therefore assume you have to talk to them the rest of the night, and yes even cheesy lines. Or insulting too, b/c apparently telling a chick she looks like a bitch is a come on in some people's worlds.

A former friend of an ex-BF I run into all the time repeatedly likes to tell me he'd treat me better and then proceeds with the compliments :googly:. He's always a funny one.

Then there's the man whore I know (hey his words!!) who'll regularly drop the did you fall from the sky line or come here often (we're regulars at the same neighborhood bar), but at least with him it's making fun of the idiots; though he's only half-joking. LOL.

Never tried to use a cheesy pickup line seriously...I have used them jokingly with women I already know, though. They are usually good for a laugh that way.

I forget them though, one started with "Is your dad a thief?" and ended with something about stealing diamonds and putting them in your eyes.

...or switch thief with astronomer and diamonds with stars...
