View Full Version : What their costume "really" means

I don't know how many people read MSN, but on the front page, they have a link to these two articles: What her costume really means (http://msn.match.com/msn/article.aspx?articleid=6832&TrackingID=516311&BannerID=544657&menuid=6&GT1=8647) and What his costume really means (http://msn.match.com/msn/article.aspx?articleid=6977).

I think the funniest one is the "expert analysis" of the sexy angel costume. If you are dating a girl who wants to wear a sexy costume, beware. According to the experts, "She is telling you, in advance, that she is insecure, immature, and a great candidate for infidelity."

I guess I should dump my gf who got a sexy devil costume before she cheats on me :googly:

They're good for a laugh...but probably not more than that. Who would really take these things seriously?

I dunno. I posted them because they were so amusing. It's like people have nothing better to do than psychoanalyze why people would wear a halloween costume.

I bought an evil-looking demonic priest robe, so that must mean I was abused by a priest as a child and not because I thought it looked cool and would fit the spirit of halloween.

That "analysis" is ridiculous.

ha ha you can psychoanalyze everything !

why do girls use halloween as an excuse to dress skanky though? i remember in college girls would be all sorts of different things, but always slutty versions of those things-- slutty girl scouts, slutty firewomen, slutty witches, slutty schoolgirls...

But funny, in its absurdity.

Well, a good friend of mine always maintains that everything in life is because of power and sex. Money = Power = Sex. So, if you have money, it'll give you power over the opposite sex and you;ll get laid.

Those costumes equal Power to the girls. Right? Correct me if I'm wrong cause I tend to agree with him on this one.

I was talking about the articles, not the costumes in question.

The "sexy" or "slutty" costumes kill me. I'm thinking that in backlash to the "sexy" costumes, I should buck the trend and go as a frumpy [nurse, devil, angel, schoolgirl, girl scout, witch, etc.].

lol. The last time I went trick or treating, I was a shepherd. A frumpy shepherd. Crook and all. (Hey, I was only 11 or so.)

My apologies, WorkInProgress... That was a completely stupid mistake to make..funny, too! I'm not even too sure why I quoted you!

No worries. It's easy to make careless wrong button pushing mistakes. I wasn't upset, just clarifying.

Probably because it's a chance to dress all skanky without being thought of as skanky. It's all make-believe for one day of the year, so girls can wear really revealing, sexual stuff (like the French Maid or Sexy Nurse) and not get labeled as a slut.

That article bugs me and I doubt if anyone is going to read it for more than it's "entertainment" value. With the women's costumes, there were negative slants on everything. They should have stuck their "do not judge a book by it's cover (or lack there of)" on every single costume, not just the virginal Snow White. Or is that the slutty, disillusioned Snow White who is hiding seven leather chaps wearing midgets in her closet?

You shouldn't be a super hero because you are too confident and self-sufficient and wouldn't have use for the guy. Ever. You shouldn't be a geisha because the guy will think you are manipulating him by being so eager to please. You shouldn't be an Oompa Loompa because... do you really need to spell out why you shouldn't be an Oompa Loompa?

The authors for the article on guys seem to be equate wearing certain costumes with being attention whores. At Halloween? Say it ain't so!! Are we so desperate for red flags in relationships that a halloween costume can make or break a relationship?

A friend of mine dressed up as a bottle of ketchup. That's probably the least slutty outfit ever. lol

My brother and his college roommate were a box of dental floss and a tube of toothpaste. Pretty unsexy. Of course, they went with my now-sister in law who was (drumroll) a sexy hygienist. :googly:

I had party in college where I girl I knew came as Alice in Wonderland (she had long yellow blonde hair and worked in the theatre costume shop, so sewed a blue dress). A homicidal Alice in Wonderland, brandishing a bloody butcher knife in her pinafore.

my friend wants to be a firefighter and wants me and another female friend to dress up as his "ho's" (hose), basically just dressing slutty. Um, no.

There was a video game like that.

I'm guessing I would be considered 'boring' and 'uncreative', if they knew my costume. The last time I dressed up for Halloween was 5 years ago and I wore black pants, a black turtleneck, cat ears, and a black, sheer cape. I think I told people I was a black cat in a halloween costume. I was apparently a party pooper because I didn't dress up as a sexy "whatever".

And every year, my fiance dresses up as a fireman or biker. The only reason is because he has a fireman's uniform and he's got leather biker clothing.

I guess we're both really boring because neither of us sees the appeal of dressing up for halloween.

This year, I'm trying to convince my SO to dress as the Katamari man and I'll go as his ball of sh!t.

To quote "Mean Girls"--
"Halloween is the only day that you can dress like a skank and none of the other girls can say anything about it."

Sometimes it's fun to play dress up and wear something that's way off what you would normally wear.

That being said...I'm not dressing up this year and find it a bit too cold to dress so skimpily. Maybe I'm just getting old. ;):

I am dressing up as Jane (as in Jane and Tarzan). Here is a psychoanalysis of me- "the chick who likes to dress up slutty once a year". :frustrate

That is such a terrible generalization! You dress up slutty more than once a year don't you?

Great, now I've got the Katamari song going through my head. Seriously, that song is more addictive than crack sometimes!
