Help me! I've got a couple of cats and their hair's everywhere. I know this is probably normal but I sweep every day and it's a major issue. I'm starting to feel as though I'm alergic to the cat hair.
There's even cat hair on my laptop's screen cause they'll rub their faces against it when I'm working!

Vacuum. Religiously. I live with 3 dogs, and it's a necessity. Sweeping is not enough.

I don't have carpets. Or is that a feeble excuse? :huge:

Weak. I vacuum everything, even linoleum (sp?), wood and tile. (If I go too long between vacuums, my allergies get bad.)
Do you brush your cats? It might be worth it to do that and try to collect (and get rid of) the fur, rather than only allowing them to shed.

Make sure you also brush them regularly with a rubber brush (I recomend a "Love Gloce", which is a mitten with rubber pegs all over the palm, works great) that will collect the hair. This will also stimulate their skin to produce more oil, and consequently, they will lose less hair.

I must admit that I've not been the best cat owner in the last couple of months. I'll brush their cute little coats from tonight on. Promise. Another question. How do I get rid of cat hair that's basically embedded in my clothes?
Thanks in advance!

Uh, have you tried tweezers? LOL! Yeah, I've basically come to terms with the fact that my clothes will contain a small amount of cat hair, and I only have one cat, black short haired. :huge:

I've got loads of black clothing. And my cats are white haired. Silly me, I know. Yeah, I've tried tweezers. And some people are very unforgiving if your clothes contain even just a couple of cat hairs.
Perhaps I should hang out with cat lovers. Or buy bright clothing!!

Things that work, with varying degress of success:
Lint rollers (or like items, to include simple masking tape)
Lint brushes
Rubber gloves
Just plain picking the hairs off

I agree with this. I have just ONE dog, but she's a long-haired one and boy does she shed, esp. in springtime. I have just resigned myself to lots and lots of vacuuming. It does help that she's not allowed on the furniture, so I only have to worry about vacuuming the floor - at least I don't have to clean hair off the furniture daily! I have one of those travel lint rollers that I keep in my purse so I can get any stray hairs off my pant legs before walking into work.

LOL! This is REALLY gross, but I knew this girl a few years back whose family seriously did collect all the hair that their golden retriever shed and they stuffed decorative throw pillows with it. We were over at her parents' house for dinner when she told us, and at first we all thought she was kidding, but then we realized she was serious, and we all looked at each other and made excuses about how we had to go refill our drinks just so we didn't have to sit on the couch with the doggy pillows anymore. Eww, I'm still grossed out thinking about that.

 I'm so glad I wasn't trying to drink anything.
Apparently some people spin (and then knit) with dog hair.

This is the reason why I am a firm believer in getting exactly the vacuum you want (and love), even if it's a bit expensive. Because if I'm gonna be vacuuming a lot, I want to (almost) enjoy the experience.

Having just acquired a new kitten, I also lend my resounding support to the vacuum like a fiend tactic. And brush the little demons. Herbie alternates between hating it and loving it. But he's a little squirrelly thing, so it's kind of par for the course.
And get a lint brush. I used to live with three super-shedding black dogs and I lint-brushed/taped/tweezed like it was my job.

if you don't have any carpet, BE GLAD that you see so much cat hair. the amount of hair a carpet can trap is ridiculous. no amount of vacuuming will ever get it out. just get an electric broom and sweep up the tumbleweeds whenever you see them. and a dustbuster for the table/lap tops, etc. i'm in the process of getting rid of 80% of the carpet in my house.

Oh dear... I've encountered this before. When living at my former mother-in-law's place I once found a ziploc bag in the garage with some white fur in it. After my initial "what-the-??", she explained that she had saved her dog's hair to make a cushion for the little critter - his odor would attract him to that pet cushion and he wouldn't sleep elsewhere. P.s. The dog disappeared 7 years prior to me finding the ziploc bag.
Also, this is the same woman who froze her dog in her freezer till spring to give it a proper burial herself - dog was a Pomeranian (not a St-Bernard)... still she had food in that same freezer. Yuck...

EWWWW! I thought this girl's family was kind of creepy because the dog had passed away several years ago, and I swear they had more pictures of the dog around their living room than of their three very accomplished and photogenic children. And these pillows were decorative, not for the dog...these people were pretty well-off and they had a lot of expensive furniture...which they had carefully accented with throw pillows stuffed with dog hair.... the whole thing just seemed a little off. *shudder*

I'm not sure I see why this is gross...how is this more gross than the pillow being stuffed with wool (lamb's hair)?

If you don't have carpets, Swiffers work great for picking up the cat hair, too. I have carpet, linoleum and wood floors, so I have a vacuum, a Swiffer with the cloth sheets, and the new Swiffer carpet flick. I can vacuum once a week and there's still cat hair everywhere.
Oh, and I have 3 cats.

Thankfully I only have one cat as far as shedding goes. Still if I don't vacuum every week I have kitty hair tumbleweeds rolling around. I try and brush my cat often (he loves being brushed). Also I have all hardwood floors so it's easy to swiffer up most of the cat hair and then I vacuum to get the rest or the stuff on the edges of thing.

This trick probably isn't very popular amongst cats... but works with dogs... mine anyways - I vacuum him - he thinks it's a special petting session - keeps some of the hair off the ground.
Otherwise... good ol' brushing and swiffering does the job. Good luck.

LOL NorthernAngel--my cats RUN when they see the vacuum come out of the coat closet!
Two of my cats are shedders with fluffy fur, but are not long-haired. The other one is only 5 months old (awww) and has shorter, finer, hair. I don't think she'll be as problematic at the older two.
