This morning when I came into work I knew it was someone's birthday, and I knew it was Diwali and some Indian staff were bringing in some food for it.
But when I got in the birthday lady got a huge bunch of flowers, and a present, and Happy Birthday sung to her twice, and the indian lady brought so much food in and it kept on arriving and she bought a chocolate cake, and everyone was gathered upstairs eating the food and talking...
I had to mind the front desk and answer the phone and keep the local alcoholic man who came in away from the female clients and I was printing all this stuff out for people and I just got so hyperactive and was so full of samosas... such a quiet office usually.
Anyway I guess what Im saying is, aren't office parties great? :)

We had a kitty in the office today, which lightened the mood considerably.
It was meowing loudly at the door, and came in with a customer, finally. It's a house cat that either escaped or somebody let out purposely. We made a flier and an ad in case he's lost. My graphic designer took him home for the night.

Offices parties are great unless you have to plan one. :) My department is responsible for the office halloween party this year. I was in an hour-long party planning meeting today, and I wanted to gouge my eyes out.

I love diwali too. The best diwalis I ever had was when I would go back to India to visit with my family. Lotsa family, lotsa color, music, FOOD, firecrackers everywhere...
wow, miss those days. Happy Diwali everyone :)

wordsmith, kitty sounds cute. I love it when something unexpected stirs things up a bit in the office.
As for Diwali, I think there are Diwali celebrations in the city this weekend. Im prob going to check it out.
Crystal_dance I envy you though, having gone to India during the real thing....
Haloween party sounds fun. I bet that is going to be one hardcore party, with so much planning going into it.
For our office the next party will probably be the christmas party! Cant wait!!

SWEET MERCIFUL CRAP, if our office EVER has a party here that includes homemade Indian food, my job satisfaction level will seriously skyrocket.

...someone needs a weekend. ;)
While it wasn't homemade, I did have some tasty Indian last week. It sorta made me feel better about Annapolis, knowing that it isn't all crabs and Old Bay seasoning.

Actually I'm just REALLY motivated/entertained/satisfied by food, especially Indian/Thai/Vietnamese/Mediterranean. :)

Where did you go? I think there is one Indian place right in downtown Annap but I've never been. There's a kickass Mexican restaurant on West Street called El Toro Bravo. Also on West Street, there's Tsunami (really good sushi) and Kyma (Greek/Mediterranean). Oh and there's a Lebanese Taverna in Harbour Center :)

Been there and it's tasty:
Indian place right in downtown Annap
Kyma (Greek/Mediterranean)
Lebanese Taverna in Harbour Center - repeatedly.
Joss Sushi on Main Street - repeatedly.
I've also eaten at a Mexican place on Ritchie Hwy.
I'm dyin' to head to Lemongrass, but it's always so damn croweded.
To the OP, sorry for the threadjack. :huge:

I believe it's the only indian restaurant in annapolis. haha just walk along main street for a non crabs/old bay restaurant. of course you can go outside of main street.
here's one Treaty of Paris (read the last line):
http://www.annapolisinns.com/dining.php
HISTORY OF THE TREATY OF PARIS
The Treaty of Paris, is steeped in the heritage of our country. We acquired our name from the Peace Treaty of 1783, also known as the Paris Peace Treaty which terminated the Revolutionary War, and was signed in Paris on September 3, 1783. Representing England was Richard Oswald, the Chief Negotiator under the Earl of Sheltbourne and their Secretary of State, David Hartley, who was signing for them. Representing the United States were John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and John Jay, all of who signed the Treaty.
This Treaty acknowledged the independence of the United States of America. The Treaty also provided international navigation of the Mississippi River, stating that the river should be made free to all parties. It also stated that Florida and Menorca should be restored to Spain and that France should control Tobago and a region in Senegal.
The Treaty of Paris, which was signed in Paris, was ratified in our Annapolis State House. Annapolis was the First Capital of the United States. After the ratification, the signatories—John Jay, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin came to this restaurant to celebrate our country’s victory. Hence, the source of our name.

I love work parties. They always put people in good moods but the bad part is no one is getting any work done :) And whenever there is a party there is usually a happy hour where people wll sneak out as early as 2 or 3 to start it up.

I am SO jealous of you. I tried to organize a work happy hour a couple times, and it was seriously the lamest thing ever. 4 people show up, half leave early to pick up kids from daycare, and the other half is your supervisor talking about the different varieties of chestnut.

My group has a lot of young guys, and older guys who love to party. We only do happy hour about once a month and for the past couple it was me who had to put it together. I guess I'm fortunate my group consists of fun loving youngins (who will pay for my drinks LOL). But at the same time it's not like a bunch come out. Maybe 7 if it's casual, but a lot more if it's in celebration of something.

I've known two Indians in my life, sort of. Except my friend Sanjay was a dot and he moved away when I was little and my cousin is a feather, so I don't get to experience Indian holidays. :D

the city I live in is multicultural because we are close to Asia and many immigrants come over from there. So come Diwali or Chinese New Year they can have big celebrations.
Im part Indian though my family are Christian in origin so we dont do the Diwali thing. there is often a lot of indian food around my house though.

It's damn good. Pretty good for you too as far as red meat goes.

Buffalo meat is pretty much indistinguishable from beef, IMO. Buffalo are large cattle, when you pare it down to basics. Now that bison are being raised as herds to get their numbers back up, the meat is more available as a specialty.
As far as India-Indian food, that and Thai are what I miss living rurally. I have access to a lot of other ethnic foods, surprisingly, but there is no nearby Thai or Indian place (like, nearby as in within several hours), when where I used to live was crawling with both.

LOL. I never would have guessed that bison meat would be discussed in this thread? :huge:
Indian and Thai food are so nice... we went to a thai restaurant for my birthday.....
