View Full Version : Always in Financial Crisis!

This is just me venting, but I feel about as financially stable as the govt. of Argentina, and here's the thing: I have no credit card debt, never have!
First, my taxes are f'ed up for years and the IRS was houding me because my (absentee) father claimed me as a dependent, which took years to clear up, with the Feds threatening me for unpaid taxes. Ultimately, they apologized, but who wants to have the IRS after you?
Next, some jackass at the student loan company overcharged me by $40,000, which I've finally cleared up, but they've still messed up my repayement plan and doubled my debt on my credit report . . . another pain in the ass thign I have to take care of, all while making cripplingly high payments as they try to sort out their constant mistakes.
Finally, the preapproval for my mortgage is upside-down, with major mistakes in assets, income and debt, meaning (yup) another financial snafu to fix.
WTF? Why do I always get the messed-up records?

Sallie Mae (who is a dirty whore) calls me 10 times a day about my student loans. I'm having it taken care of and have told them I'm consolidating with ANOTHER COMPANY (don't ever borrow from Sallie Mae). Yet I know the person calling me is an idiot making minimum wage to call people all day lying to say their credit report will be ruined if they don't pay this fee or that. I wish cell phones let you block certain numbers.

I have my loans through Sallie Mae, and although their communication process is seriously lacking, I havent had any serious problems with them.

Me too. When I had my own problem with them (which was their fault), they fixed it. I only had to contact them once.

ditto. as a matter of fact, other than the initial set-up issues upon graduation, they've been great. no problems since.

Whoa! Still pending?! It's not lost somewhere? You can't reapply?

Ya know what really sucks? Getting errors removed from your credit report. That is one huge freakin' hassle.

That's what I was afraid was the situation with Sallie Mae...but they said that they never reported the problem (which is great, since it was their fault/problem).

I have my loans consolidated through Nelnet. www.nelnet.com I haven't had any problems whatsoever. The process was so quick and easy. And I just go online every month and pay my bill.

Yes, getting it corrected, can't reapply because it's still pending, but threats of a breach of contract suit seem to have hastened this (and lowered my interest rates.) Still, they're just such jackasses!!!!!

Just make sure to check it out - I try to check my credit report at least once a year. I usually find at least 1 error.

No, you just have to write a lot of letters and provide proof of who you really are/your accounts. I've had horrible mistakes on my credit report-- it took a while to clear them up, but I got it taken care of!

One of the perks of going to a Technical school and getting a cheap ass degree I guess. My loans have been all paid off for years. Of course now I have a mortgage.

my student loans are through Citibank and they're great. I haven't had a problem with them. The only problem right when I started paying it back is that I didn't know I was in repayment time. Other than that, it's been great.

I consolidated through nelnet. Pay online. No problems so far (I'm 2 years into repaying the loan).
One of my x's loans were through Sally Mae, and they were horrible to him. Just awful, I thought he was going to keel over from a stress attack, but he had other debt collectors (cc) calling too so I think it all added up.

yeh I know the feeling. I made a few financial faux pas (some based on my own stuipidity and others out of circumstances I couldn't control) and are paying for it dearly now and feel that it will be another 3-5 years before the mess gets cleared up.
I feel bad for your situation cause the stuff that is happening to you isn't even your fault.
