Hi : )
I just thought I would put a question out there regarding office clothes. i personally find that it is difficult to maintain an orderly wardrobe when it comes to work clothes.. I evny men, it would be great to just have a few shirts and ties and pants.
It can all become such a disorganised jumble.
How do you office-based ladies deal with the whole "dressing up for the office" thing? In terms of organisation of clothes etc. Does anyone have any tips to make it more hassle-free?

are you speaking of organizing your closet or your outfits or both? or something else?...

If you want make it as hassle free as possible, why can't you get a few good work pants & skirts and pair those with nice work shirts? I like mine to be a bit more complicated than that, but I don't see why it has to be.

I don't really have to dress up, but you really can take a page from the men's book,in terms of simplicity. Don't buy trendy stuff, get solid mix and match basics.

Well I have 2 closets so I have one reserved just for work gear.
This is gonna sound real anal but I have all my tops color-coordinated. Makes it easier to find things and pair them with bottoms and the bottoms are all together on one end of the closet.
I also buy things gerneraly either paired up or with something I already have in mind so evertyhing has something to go with it. Makes it easy to create outfits.

i also do the color coordination. (yeah, winter...i'm very anal! LOL.) one side is has tops hanging the whole length and bottoms hanging below that same length. the other side is suits and other 2- or 3-piece outfits, and dresses. within those groups, everything is grouped by color and it works very well.

That's how my closet is organized. PJs, tops by color (and within color, type), flannel shirts (love 'em on fall/winter weekends), jeans, slacks, skirts (on those multiple skirt hangers, which I LOVE), dresses.

Yep I'm a closet color coordinator too!
I find it easier to sort and find things by color, rather than by shirt type (tees, tanks, sweaters, etc) or in a mess.

I have an entire room for all my clothes, shoes, and bags an I'm very anal when it comes to organizing it - but I feel like I have to be, or I have no idea what I have.

Thanks, girls.... I think I have got some good tips already! I think colour organising is a great idea, I will start doing that. And I also think that centering a work wardrobe around trousers could also be helpful to me..
I guess I am asking because I have difficulty making sense of my clothes and I end up wearing the same things over and over again because it is easier...
anyway thx : )

Well, spend a day mixing an matching and playing around in your closet. I usually think of tomorrow's outfit the night before - otherwise, I'll just grab whatever without a lot of effort.

You guys must all have a ton of clothes. I have mine separated winter on one side, summer on the other. Within that there are "weekend shirts" (t-shirts) & "work shirts" (button downs & blouses). I maybe have 10 shirts in each category. There is no reason to color code 10 shirts. I have 3 pairs of jeans for the weekend & 4 pairs of work pants (kacki, brown, black, grey)... oh, also in my closet I have a little space for sweatshirts, my 1 jacket & fleese... & I have one nice skirt I wear once in a great while.

I honestly don't have so many clothes that organizing them is a problem. I wouldn't even begin to have room for a lot of clothes.

Well, I don't think that organizing mine is a problem either, but I do organize them, rather than just hanging up stuff wherever.

I also am anal about my closet. Shoes in the boxes from the store. All like clothes together--t-shirts, cardigans, long sleeved button downs, etc. Then within those categories, all the white t's are together, black t's, etc. It just works better when it's super neat.
And WHO hangs up their PJs????

I do. Nightgowns and nightshirts take up too much space in a drawer, for me. Plus given a choice between hanging things up and folding them, I'd rather hang 'em, in general.

PJs, undies, and socks are the only things I DO keep in my dresser.

Undies, PJ pants, socks, tshirts, hankies & swimsuits (in season). I'd prefer to hang up my tshirts too, but I don't have the space in my closet.

Yeah. Not exclusively, though. :) And I prefer men's handkerchiefs to women's cute little hankies, although I have some of each. I use tissues as well, especially lately, since I've been a tad under the weather, due to the changing seasons.

Sweats, sweaters, and jeans are all too bulky for my dresser. They go on closet shelves.

I have an entire wall of bins where I put my jeans, shirts, sweaters, etc. Actually, I have a pick of 1/2 my room:

I do those same wire bins. I also do them in my bathroom, for towels and such, because it's a big room, but it has crappy shelving/vanity.

I have an extra room that I call my "dressing room" but really it's the "everything that doesn't fit in my bedroom room." I have the smallest bedroom in the house (only fits bed, 2 nightstands and tv stand), so I got the extra room, which I made into the dressing room. The closet is super tiny so I cram as much as I can in there, then I have my dresser, and bookshelf that includes my jewelry. Shoes are kept in boxes and are on the shelves above my hanging clothes in the closet.

Me too. I love feeling like everything has a place to go. I"m slowly organizing the rest of the apartment..it takes forever. Also, I can't believe how expensive plastic bins are - they're plastic for cripes sake.

Hah!
Those Rubbermaid storage tubs, the big ones, aren't even that cheap at stores like that. I've found the best deals on them at the dollar stores that are here, Family Dollar and Dollar General (DG, now THERE'S a dirty and unappealing store, right there, at least locally...but, man, I will SO go in there to get name brand deodorant and toothpaste and aspirin and stuff for a buck).

No kidding they aren't cheap! I tend to get them at Ocean State Job Lot (it's only in New England), National Wholesale Liquidators, Benny's (another NE chain), and this store called Richlin's (I think it's a CT-only place).

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (which, btw, is an AMAZING product).
I couldn't find it at Target or any number of drug stores.

Probably. I don't know what's in those things, but it must be some toxic sh*t. It's weird, though, because it looks just like a normal sponge and it doesnt' really smell like chemicals or anything.

I LOVE mine. And I've gone through a couple of them, without using gloves, and it hasn't eaten up my hands, or even dried out my skin. I'm a big fan.
