So we're renting a condo--it's 2 floors (sadly, no basement). Downstairs has a living room with a closet and an eat in kitchen with a 1/2 bath, pantry closet, and a utility closet. Off the kitchen is a patio. Upstairs has a full bath with a huge linen closet, a master bedroom with two closets, and a smaller bedroom with a really deep closet. It's an end unit in a quiet complex. My friend and her husband just bought a condo at the next complex over, which should be fun! It's in the same town I already live in, but on the other side, so it'll make my commute a little longer, but C's will be much much shorter.

Wow, that sounds really cool - especially the two floors and the friend living close by.
It's really nice to have two bedrooms, too. Big difference...

Yeah, we're psyched! I just wish we didn't have to wait so long to move in. My current place is two floors, but is much smaller, and only one bedroom.

How are you guys furnishing? Bringing stuff you already have?
For the longest time, D and I didn't have a couch. I think it was like 6 months or something - we were watching tv just sitting on the ground.

OMG. C thinks that we can just sit on kitchen chairs to watch TV. I was like, NO WAY. I have a couch which was pre-C, so it's fairly girly and not really for relaxing on...more of like a formal living room couch? I think we'll take that with us, for now, and we'll save up for a new couch and comfy chairs.
I have an entertainment center, coffee table, end table, bookcases, my desk, table and chairs, dressers, bedside tables, rocker...we need a bigger bed. I currently have a double and the mattress needs to be tossed. That will be our first major purchase.
C has dressers, his desk, and he might be able to take some things from his dad.
I think we'll get all new furniture when we own something--whenever that might be.

Yeah, D bought the couch because it was getting ridiculous..but then we both bought the bed together. I think we slept on a shitty bed for 2 years, though. It sucked.

Why didn't you get a couch sooner? My bed sucks and I think it's really impacting my life, haha.

I just spent the last 2 days doing just that actually, and I've helped a ton of other friends move too, so I'm a total pro, just let me know when you need me!

Because D is freakin' anal about quality and wanted to get a really nice leather couch... :googly:

Ouch, that sucks. Yeah, C is like, oh it'll be fine, we can just sit on wooden chairs until we find a good couch. I'm like, why don't we just use MY couch for now and at least have some level of comfort??

I would appreciate any/all help that people are willing to give. :) There will be a good dinner served afterwards.
The housewarming party will happen after all of my sh!t gets put away, so I'm guessing...February? lol

Dude, that's why D wouldn't let me bring the couch I had. He's like, "it's crap and it will be too much of a hassel to move it in and then get rid of it in a few months."

He'll change his mind when he's sitting on a kitchen chair for a couple hours while you watch a movie.

Oh, most definitely. I don't get why he thinks he'll be fine with this. I think I might have convinced him that we should bring the couch. hehehe

I love guys and this line of thinking.
Do you have the 2-3K to front for a new couch, right this second? Then the old one comes with us.

Um, couches do NOT cost 2-3K. I bought my last couch, brand-new, for under $1000. I think it was like $800? Maybe less.

Um yeah. I gave my old couch and chair away to charity because my new stuff was scheduled to come in a week, and I was going out of town for a few days. Great plan until my furniture was SIX WEEKS LATE coming from the factory. It wasn't too bad because I have a TV in my bedroom and I'm hardly ever home. . . but somedays I just plopped my butt on the floor and watched TV. Let me tell ya, it's okay until your ass goes completely numb. I'm assuming that wooden chairs would have a similar effect. :)
Congrats on the new place Jen! :)

Some do cost that much, but yeah, you can get them starting around $600 and they go up from there.
The only real requirement I have is that I only like leather coaches. I think they're a good investment anyway because they last longer and hold their value.

I think ours was around $1200 on sale. It is one of those couches with recliners on either end, and the thing in the middle to stick your beverages in. (Perfect for M). It took forever to come though (thinking back it was at least a month or two). I tend to lounge in bed though and watch TV and M has the living room. He just went out recently and bought himself a new HDTV.

D and I had to sleep on an air matress for two weeks when we moved this past time (we decided we'd be buying a new bed for our place). It was so freakin' hellish - especially since the air matress had a small hole and by the morning would be almost completely flat. It really expedited the purchase of the new bed.
