I have just applied to graduate school in Worcester, MA for next fall. Does anyone here live in Central Mass? I've got some questions.

Worcester is the garbage storm capital of the US.
It's also the Heart City.

Yeah my uncle lived there for many years, he already informed me of how you pronounce it. I'll have to remember that.
Some questions I have:
1. How big is Worcester? Is it a spread out city?
2. How far is it from Boston?
3. I know it's a college town and i will be a grad student there. Anyone live or have lived there?

1. It's a pretty spread-out city. I looked at two colleges there (Holy Cross and Assumption) and they are in completely different areas of the city.
2. About an hour with no traffic on the pike.
3. There are a TON of colleges, but I'm not sure if it's a "college" town.

Yeah, I would def call Boston the "college town". Worcester has its nice parts, but I wouldn't think of it as a particularlyl attractive city. Are you only applying to schools in Worcester?
I am sure of the cost of living there. Boston is crazy expensive, but I am not so sure how far that extends into the state. There is a commuter train that takes you right into Boston in about an hour.

I go to the Palladium for shows all the time. There's a great little dive bar right around the corner there - near the DCU Center.

Assumption and Suffolk are the schools I applied to. I would love to live in Boston, but the rents there are incredibly high as everyone knows. I had been told that Worcester has quite a few colleges in town and that is the only reason to live there. I also have been researching apartments in Worcester and they seem to be around what I pay in Orlando. In some cases, a little less.

1. According to the 00 census, 172,648 people.
2. About 45-60 minutes without traffic.
3. Nope.
