On dating sites, how many messages should a guy exchange with a woman before he asks her out on a date?

I find it creepy to exchange message and then jump to a date. Shouldnt u talk on AIM first and then the phone for at least a few times first?

Another thing I've done with a girl from myspace is just casually meet her and her friends with you and your friends at a club or bar or something and talk and meet there. That way theres NO pressure at all on you guys. Kind of like meeting a random girl at a bar except better. Then when you do talk on the phone it feels more normal.

I will not go out with somebody unless I've been given the opportunity to at least get a little insight to them with a conversation of some length. That's online or offline. It makes me uncomfortable to be asked out by somebody I've not really ever conversed with in any real way, whether it's somebody jumping the gun on online dating, or somebody approaching me at a bar or other evening out.

As many as it takes to actually make a connection and feel like I'm getting to know someone. I don't like feeling like it's a blind date with a total stranger. I'm much like WS in this way.

If you're looking for a number, I don't know what to tell you. It's not after just talking to someone once or twice.
