Which are you closer to? I have to say my friends.

Totally family. There are only a handful of friend that if I drifted from them, it would absolutley devastate me. But my family? Heartbreak. Friends can be fickle, friends come and go; my family is a constant, and nobody knows me better or I them.

My family. But, anyone I consider a friend is also considered family, so it's really a toss-up.

This is true...the true friends = family status.

It's a toss-up, my (close) friends know how much of a freak I am and love me anyway, my parents is in denial about how much of a freak I am and love me as they wait for "God to complete his work in me". My siblings and I have the same really twisted sense of humor and even though we don't speak that often, it's always easy to catch up and there's no/few guilt trips.

Hands down family.

friends sort of come and go, people move, get different interests, grow apart.

but there are a lot of things my friends now that I would never let my parents know. and I enjoy the company of friends more than family.

but your family is always there. and there are usually many things you can tell your family but not your friends.

toss up.

Down the middle. There are times when I am closer to one than the other.

Same here. I am close to both in different ways and aspects.

family - they stick with me. I've been fairly unlucky in the friends dept.

My family - hands down. And I'm not talking just my immediate family either. It's my extended family as well - cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.

I've posted tons of threads on here about my crazy family, but that's why I'm so close to them.

Since moving out here, I haven't met too many people. And my best friend since junior high, she and I have grown apart. If it weren't for the fact that I'm one of her son's godmothers, I don't think I'd keep in touch with her much.

So yeah, I have to say my family.

Sometimes I wonder if having a close family and having my siblings as my best friends prevents me from really trying to cultivate a big crowd of friends. It's like, that void is already filled, so it doesn't occur to me to really actively try to acquire a whole lot more. I do have friends, and good ones, but I've always been more into small, closeknit groups or one-on-one friendships, I've never been a "let's get the whole gang together" kinda person. I also mostly only have friendships that kind of "happened," I've never really consciously tried to cultivate friends. Which is kinda what you have to do if you want a big circle.

Whenever SmilesSoSweet talks about her family, I think of my big crazy family. :)

I feel exactly the same way. My parents and my sister are my best friends. I think that I'm as close to my cousins as some people are to their brothers and sisters.

I have wonderful close friends, but family is everything to me.

Family. I have one friend who I consider to be family, but she is an exception.

Family, hands-down.

Sometimes I get along with my friends much better than my family, but my family is consistently there for me. My siblings are like my best friends, even though I have a best "friend" (we drifted apart over the years and we reconnect now and then).

I agree with wordsmith. Sometimes I wonder if it is because I have a solid relationship with my family that I don't bother to expand my social circle as much. My family plays a critical part, and I only need a few good friends (which I have), so maybe I've become complacent about it. I *want* to continue to meet new people, but I find that I am not trying hard in that area. It's something I'll need to work on...

Exactly. It's just not as crucial, because I've got my family. I won't be able to be as complacent when/if I move, however.

I think I'm closer to my family. While we don't always get along, esp. right now with me always stressing out about stuff and (wrongly) taking it out on them, they're always there for me and I'm always there for them. Also, this includes most of my extended family. My mom and her sibs have been pretty good examples of what family should be like. My dad and his brothers, yeah not so much.

I do have some friends who are like family though...just don't see them very often anymore.

I would have to say friends. My family has no idea what is really going on in my personal ife, not do they take an interest.

I am the only child and thus my girlfriends are my sisters. After my mother, if I was broken down on the road, I would likely call a friend. I am totally building a friend "family" right now.
I am happy that so many people are close to their families. Its important to be close to somebody, it saves on the therapy bills!
