For about the past month, I have been in the process of getting to see a therapist and getting put on an anti-depressant. Luckily, the therapy is going to be free of cost due to a government program in my area. Unfortunately, my Paxil (that I just picked up yesterday) cost SIXTY ONE DOLLARS -- and that's WITH my insurance.

I had to BEG my dad to help me pay for this. Why? Well, b/c two days ago, I got in trouble at work for making an honest, innocent mistake and now I'm probably going to get fired. I'm waiting to hear from them, but even if I don't get fired I don't know if I want to work there anymore. The problem with quitting my current job is that I won't have any insurance.

I am looking for another job, but right now all I really qualify for is retail -- and with the holidays coming, people are only offering PT . . . that means no benefits.

I NEED this medication -- how in the HELL am I going to pay for it??

See if the doctor has any free samples. Is there a cheaper generic version of the drug? Also talk to your therapist. She may have some ideas. I know when I used to work in an outpatient program, we had funds to purchase clients meds in an emergency situation.

I was reading an article the other day on the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, that organization that Montel Williams is always mentioning. I don't know anyone that has used them, but they are a legitimate service that provides free or extremely low cost medications for the financially challenged. You can always call them and find out the criteria, here's the number: 1-888-4PPA-NOW

Good luck!

Totally agree with this. Esp. if you are just starting Paxil, you should get some samples. What if it's not the drug for you and you only use half of it? You can't get a refund on meds.

Good luck.

I can sympathize with you on this...I have a health condition and HAVE TO ALWAYS be on health insurance and medication. Medication is not cheap, I know and netiher is Health Insurance. You could always get insurance through COBRA a federal law that says that your previous employer has to offer you benefits after you are terminated. Though COBRA you can get benefits through your previous employer, but you need to pay for them and they are usually not cheap. They can cost up to $400 a month. It may be cheaper to get an individual insurance policy through an insurance company.
Or you could do temp work in the meantime while you find a full time job. Some temp agencies offer temporary health insurance, you may be able to get some kind of health insurance through them.

Maybe try to find out if you can get them cheaper over the internet from a Canadian pharmacy?
