for all you reality show junkies like myself, i would like to discuss the results of last night's "average joe."
i can honestly say i was shocked that melana didn't pick adam. what was she thinking?!? he is sooo sweet, smart, and hilarious. he was honestly my favorite contestant from the beginning. i think she is insane. ugh! actually, in the back of my mind i am happy that he did not end up with her. that way he can find a better woman, like........ myself.
i realize that i am probably the only one on here who gives a crap, but i am feeling the need to vent.
yay reality tv!

I love reality TV, but do not discuss it on this message board b/c of all the crap people give you for liking it! Yes I know it's stupid and staged but I love it anyway, esp. since there are no other sitcoms/ programs that are any good anymore.
Anyway, I was glad Melana picked Jason, they seemed like they both had that good looking, totally vacant thing going for them. Adam did seem like the generally nicer guy, but he just tried way too hard, and it was so obvious that she wasn't into him. I saw Melana & Jason on the Today show this morning, Adam called in & said he has a girlfriend now, sorry kit.
While we are on the reality show topic, what do you think about Trista & Ryan? I want to gag - if I hear her talk about having pink stuff in the wedding & say "peeink" one more time, I think I will.
Also, Survivor - the girls should totally take over & boot Burton out, then Lil, then at least the last 3 will have sort of an equal chance.

i don't watch survivor, so i have nothing to add on that front.
BUT i am convinced the trista and ryan thing is crap. they are making $1M to get married on tv, so i dont really think they are into it or that it will last. i heard a rumor that part of the contract states that they have to stay married for at least a year. also, i heard an interview with a reporter for US Weekly who said that ryan stated that he and trista's "intimate" relationship is nonexistent because she isn't into sex. THEN WHY ARE YOU MARRYING HER?!?! relationships should not be sexless BEFORE you get married.
I AM SO SAD THAT ADAM HAS A GIRLFRIEND. i am the perfect woman for him, seriously. :D
in addition, i was also upset that bob picked estella because i found her profoundly annoying. plus, kelly jo's family was so much like bob's. they would have had a blast together. actually, i think bob should have picked meridith, but i guess she is going to be the next bachelorette. good for her.
i could go on and on. lol
ALSO - if anyone has an issue with reality tv, we already know about it. we have already taken crap for it, so you don't need to rant and rave about it. to each his own.

Ryan isn't into sex w/ Trista b/c he is a closeted gay man, anyone who cries over strippers has serious issues. You should have heard Howard Stern talking about them this morning, hilarious.
I think in the end that Estella was the right choice for Bob, she doesn't need to be the center of attention like both he & Kelly Jo do so there's not that friction w/ them.
You should watch Survivor, I still believe that it is the best reality show out there. It's really a great psychological experiment.

I'm not surprised that Melena picked Jason. Like someone else mentioned they both had a looks thing going on. My bet is that they break up in 6 months.
She didn't deserve Adam. It would have been a one-sided relationship ayway.

Yeah I was also disappointed that Melena picked Jason. It looked like she had a lot more fun with Adam. It just seemed like Jason didn't have any stand-out qualities besdies his pretty boy looks. I totally thought she was going to pick Adam when she said she picked a "diamond in the rough." How is Jason a diamond in the rough?
This is probably the best thing for Adam though. He's gonna have so many ladies knocking at his door.

What was the whole point of the show anyway? It's supposed to be about the average guy winning over a pretty girl, & then they bring in 3 model-type guys at the end? I didn't watch every episode, so I really don't know why they chose to do that or even if they had any explanation at all of why they did it.

well the show started with all the "average" looking guys (most of whom were educated & had good jobs). then when she narrowed it down to 3, they brought on 3 "hot" guys (who were pretty much uneducated model/actor/waiters). it basically boiled down to a looks vs. personality thing. the "average joe" wasn't necessarily supposed to win, the show was set up as more of an experiment to see if a pretty girl would actually choose an average guy with an above average personality over a pretty boy with not much else going on for him.

So did she pick the pretty boy and not the average one?
kitalyn414
12-09-2003, 06:44 PM
yeah she picked jason who is 26, still in school, lives with his parents, and "pretty" (in a rather non-manly way.... read: she asked him if he was bisexual on their first date).
adam (my future boyfriend ;) ) is hilarious, smart, motivated, and super-sweet. he is 27 and already successful in his career. he is attractive... but not your tv-good-looks.

I was equally upset that Malena picked the pretty boy and not Adam. I never watched the show, just the last 25 minutes or so of the finale and I was sure she was going to pick Adam. Ah well, it won't last anyway.

I have to first say I didn't watch the show. That being said, I'd pick the pretty guy too. Call me pessimitic, but either way she choose it would be highly unlikely to work out. Have fun w/ the pretty boy and avoid breaking the nice guy's heart...

Funny that I just started a thread on this very topic in another message area...and there was already one here...I was damn pissed that Melena took one of the surprise studs...I guess being an average guy myself I was pulling for the average guy to win the goddess. Interesting how Melena said she wanted the nice guy blah blah blah and then when the guys first walked off of the bus she almost had a heart attack. She even said something along the lines of "if these guys were at a bar, I would never even give them the time of day." But then she later found out that she could possibly fall for a real guy.
I can't stand reality TV because it is SOOOOOOOO far from reality, but found myself a little hooked on this one. I guess it is the whole underdog thing again.
Just curious from the ladies...has this show changed your perception on nice average guys at all? I am kind of hoping that 80% of the women in america watched the show and saw that they need to give nice guys a chance...get beyond the 2 second first impression...maybe this could be a marketing/PR piece for nice average guys across america. No doubt all of the average guys on that show got a ton of phone calls from ladies!
And what are your thoughts on Average Joe 2...in Hawaii...WHAT A JOKE! Even studlier guys this time. Not watching it at all...because the end result is obvious...the average guy will once again not win.

I would ALWAYS give an average guy the time of day. Really hot guys would never be into me.

I agree...if the dude's prettier than me, no way. That would just weird me out if he took longer to get ready than I did!

I'd have to go w/ Metfan and pisces on this one...the dude shouldn't be prettier than the girl.
Overly good looking guys' girlfriends' are then usually referred to as the ugly chick, even when they are in no way, shape or form ugly... it's just too much to try and live up to, not that i've ever dated a pretty boy...

i refuse to date any man that could be called pretty. i also have issues with the whole metrosexual thing.
more thoughts on AJ - let's say the did an "average jane." is there ANY possibility that the show would work? i think men care so much more about appearance than women. maybe it would be pretty funny to see a studly dude with a bunch of average janes. (i have a friend that works on the show and i told him that i want to interview if they do cast an "average jane.") the thing is, average janes like met, pices, coll, and myself LIKE the average joes. what to do? what to do?
they would have to cast an average guy and a bunch of average women. they could call it "the bachelor: ugly edition"

As a, hopefully, average lookin cat...I think having an Average Jane would be DISASTROUS for "good-looking" men. Especially when it got narrowed down to 3 and they brought 3 more models or whatever in. I cant even IMAGINE a model-type guy choosing an Average Jane after that. That being said, I am all for "Average Jane."
kitalyn414
12-22-2003, 08:41 PM
i think the only way it would be even remotely possible for the guy to choose an average jane over the models would be:
1. if the guy is an average joe himself
2. if the average janes were super cool, funny, smart, etc.
3. if the average janes were more like "slightly above-average janes"
3. if the model chics were BLATANTLY and SEVERELY stupid, un-fun, and annoying..
even if this were the case, the chances of him picking a truly average or unattractive girl over the gorgeous model-type are slim. so sad!

12-23-2003, 06:53 PM
or 4. If the average janes were filthy rich...
kitalyn414
12-23-2003, 06:59 PM
true dat... but then he'd have to be dirt poor. AND all the smart/sassy/wealthy (albeit physically average) janes would maybe not be that into him. you have to wonder why a guy has no money. UNLESS he is an artist. correction: a legitimate artist. (read: NOT AN ACTOR).
kitalyn414
12-23-2003, 08:33 PM
i knew i would take some heat for that...
assuming that the casting directors for the show are casting out of a contestant pool above the poverty line (which they are, last i checked), it is questionable for a person who is not an artist, student, or the like to not have a steady source of income (excluding extenuating, and unfortunate circumstances.) if you met someone who was attractive and seemingly competent, wouldn't you wonder what was up if they had no job/money???
for example... though 26 year old jason (the AJ winner) was attractive, he lived with his parents, had yet to decide on what to do about his education, and was waiting tables to get by. there are all sorts of shallow, and maybe i am guilty of this one: at 23 i have a college degree and some semblance of a career (albeit faint and unsatisfying). i would expect at least that from a potential partner, and hopefully more.
then again... melana is a professional cheerleader, so perhaps her standards are different.

I found it really ironic that some of the average joes were like, "man I'd like to get a piece of that a**" and saying things that I would expect to hear from the disgusting guy at the bar who won't stop hitting on you. Than, they had the nerve to say how shallow she was when they were booted off. I would give them the boot in a second if I heard them say things like that. I am ALL about the nice average joe. Matter of fact, I'm dating one now and I have always told my friends that I'd prefer the average looking guy over the super hot one anyday. The super hot ones seem to make me feel insecure.

EVERY guy thinks like that. From lowly geeks to muscular pretty boys, they all think the same thing when they see a hot woman. We can't help it - it's how we're wired :D

At least you can keep those thoughts to yourself instead of announcing it on national television!!
Wendella

I guess some are better than others at internal dialogue. Those guys probably should work on that. Announcing it on national television probably doesn't score a whole lot of points with the ladies!
