ugh! I can't freaking believe it... i was waiting on my friend so we could go to smoke break when a girl walked up behind me and whispered to me "you know you're putting on some weight" then snickered. WTF?!! Granted its a girl that its no secert she and I don't really get along, but where the hell did that come from? I swear people have no freaking comman courtesy anymore. We usually get along fine when it comes down to it, but the animosity is always there. There has been no tension between us for a few weeks now. I guess she figured it was time to stir the pot again.
BTW: By my scales I've lost 3 lbs.

OMG! How fucking high school! You should have yelled back how her boyfriend doesn't seem to mind!
Or handled it like a mature adult which I'm sure you did. :p

Glad to hear that she's progressed beyond a very immature junior high level of interaction.
Yay on your 3 pounds! Every little bit helps. Try not to let this little, little person get you down.

Wow, inappropriate and rude.
It SO catches me offguard when people pull that shit...making personal comments they have no call to make...but it's always good to just whirl on a person and, say, "You know, that was rude of you." It usually stops them dead in their tracks, because rude jackasses count on people being to stunned at the rudeness to call them on it.

I was too stunned to call her on the rudeness. I just looked at her and said "thats not what the scales say" I'm sure I could have come up with something better, but why feed the problem between us. What kills me is she ain't exactly small. She really has no room to be calling me on weight gain, but you don't see me walking up to her and saying shes gaining weight.
GRRR!! some people are just so freaking rude...

Yeah, it's always the case where you're just stunned and too caught off guard to call them on the carpet.

Just repeat that to yourself when you meet someone who qualifies. It's so not even worth it to respond. I'll usually just laugh to myself or tell them their "number."

I'll give you a simple EFFECTIVE comeback that never fails.

As Stephane Tanner would say, "HOW RUDE!" :p
Yea, that's very immature of her. She's only allowed to comment if she's going to ask if you've LOST weight, not gained!
ETA: I also hate the whole you wanna say something back but you're on the spot and can't think of anything good until 5 minutes later when you're kicking yourself for not thinking of it sooner! haha

LOL. I'll have to use that next time I'm ever in a situation where someone says such rude, childish things!
Tina, she was just a B-tch! How dare she.

They hang with similar folks who have nothing better going on their lives except to get their kicks over insulting normal people who do. Shrug it off ( I know its hard) because behavior like that is really immature and below any response from you!

"Thats why nobody likes you."
variant: "That's why people talk about you behind your back." Say it with a smile, because it'll cook in her mind for a long, long time.
Win win. If she doesn't ask people, she'll think they're talking about her. If she does, they'll deny it making her believe it even more.
What environment is this? Work? If work, that's grounds for getting canned. You don't pull that kind of crap in the real world without consequences...

Yes, it was at work.
A friend of mine said I should report her, just because she reports everybody else for stupid stuff.
My friend asked her if she was mad at her one day. Next thing you know they are in a conference room with the sup. Apparently she can dish it out, but she can't take it.
I'm not petty enough to turn her in for being an idiot and saying rude things to me. Besides, it wouldn't be taken all that seriously since there is history between us. All from her side, but it got to the point where I couldn't even stand to see her any more. I actually asked my sup. if she would transfer me to another area (which everyone knew i didn't want to transfer out. Hell everyone else tries to transfer in because of my sup. She's awesome.) . She told me to hang on for a couple months because there were some changes coming. Sure enough, a few months later they moved all of the order entry people into thier own group of cubes so I didn't have to put up with her so much anymore. Now I just have to deal with her occasionaly.
I'm guessing she didn't get to piss anyone off yesterday so she decided I was an easy target because I was standing there. :googly:

My guess is that that comeback would become lawsuit/firing fodder way before the catty remark would, though.

thats true...however I could probably get her for sexual harassment if I really wanted to.
Here is what happened...
We were sort of merging onto the same aisle from different directions. I smiled like a hey how are you smile and she walked behind me, as I slowed down to stop at the end of one of the cubes to wait for my friend she started to walk around me, turned back towards me with her hand partially covering her mouth and a grin on her face and then said it.
Hello!! My fat ass is my business. I mean seriously how many times would she have had to check out my rear to know that I have picked up some weight?
Anyway.. I was wearing cords. They are thick. and I was wearing a sweater with another shirt under it. Of course I look like I picked up some weight.

What an effin' ho! I think my mouth would've dropped to the floor if someone said that to me beyond ever tactful Dad. You could've always said you're just trying to catch up to her... but that's not exactly the high road.

If this occured in your workplace then you can GET HER FIRED by filing an official complaint, that kind of behavior goes under "Harrassment"

One instance is generally not enough to get someone fired (depending on company policy) but if you document each time she says something along those lines, you could gain enough for a "hostile work environment" case against her I bet.
