I'd have to say I enjoy having dressing. My family only makes it on major holidays, it'd just seem weird to have it at other times.

My mom makes this amazing chocolate/peanut butter fudge, mmmmmmm.

Every year, she asks us what Christmas cookies we want, and I'm not sure why she continues to ask me, cuz every year she gets the same response from me: "as long as there's peanut butter fudge, I'm happy"

We don't have much of anything that's specifically associated with Christmas, with the exception of wassail, which is basically spiced, mulled cider. We have a lot of good food, but none that's just Christmas-y.

My mom makes this layered red and green Jell-o that she got out of some Southern Living magazine back in the early 80s. I just don't think it would be Christmas dinner without it! It started out as something she did for us kids but it's actually really beautiful, so she still makes it every year.

Also, cookies, cookies, and more cookies. And Chex Mix and sausage balls, which we don't really eat at any other time of the year besides Christmas.

The little pudge I have leftover from pregnancy is obviously not going anywhere during the next week while I'm at my parents' house! :0

MMmmm.... I associate wassail with Thanksgiving, but it's definitely a favorite around this time. Have you been to Edward's Apple Orchard? They have really good cider--I think they won "Nationals" or something.

Nah, my dad makes ours...in the fall, I usually go to Tanner's Orchard down toward Peoria and get some, too, though. Sometimes my mom makes it with stuff from Tanner's that she froze, sometimes from the stuff from our trees if there's any left.

Cookies. They're pretty simple (and SO MUCH FUN with kids), since they involve lots of sprinkles/colored sugars and smashing. I can't think a Christmas I've had without them, and I can't imagine having my own without them. Regular or frosted sugar cookies just don't cut it.

These are not my favorite food ever, nor are they my favorite cookies ever, but they are the single food that just screams that it's the holiday season to me.

Same. My mom makes different stuff each year and it's never Christmas-y stuff. This year she's making enchiladas.

My mom wants to do a big pot of homemade soup and crusty bread this year, and was sounding off with me about what type of soup she should make.

Homemade dip.

And my mom bakes about 200 of each of about 12-15 different kinds of cookies and gives them to everyone she knows pretty much. A lot of those are really good.

We usually have roast beef or prime rib, with potatoes, lots of veggies, and salad.

And cookies for dessert, usually a pie or cake, too.

Well, I've never made or eaten rum balls, but I suspect they're similar to the bourbon balls my mother makes every year. (This is the gift that she brings to parties, that my dad takes to work for his coworkers, etc.) Anyway, my mom's bourbon balls have loads of bourbon, ground up vanilla wafers, chocolate powder, karo syrup, ground up pecans and are rolled in powdered sugar. Apparently they're spectacular, since everyone loves them, but I've never been able to eat them and I can't help her make them any more. Sorta like nutty, boozy truffles.

All the ones I've had are candy/cookie-like truffles. I'm not a big fan of liquer-flavored candies and baked goods and stuff, though. With the exception of a good vodka sauce for penne, or cheesecake flavored with Bailey's, I almost without fail like to drink my booze rather than eat it.

sounds like a cross b/w rum cake and pecan pie...just in balls instead.

WIP...she doesn't make you a ltitle non-pecan batch ever?

Awww, she won't make them w/out the nuts for you??

Well, apparently they just lose something without the nuts. And when I could help her make them, I was really not old enough to be taking that much booze.

So nope, no non-nut ones. It's ok, I don't like bourbon anyway.

Oh, and I forgot to say that they age. Like cheese or wine. So she usually makes them around Thanksgiving (usually before) to give out at Christmas & New Years.

And it's kinda funny to watch people eat them.

You can taste the vodka in vodka sauce? I never can.

and rum balls.........
just had one of those at work with our pot luck :D. Last year one woman actually got drunk off of them. LOL.

For me, it's all about the lemon poppyseed cake. I won't go to my mother's if she doesn't make it! And now that i have my aunt's sugar cookie recipe, i make those every year too...

Peanut Blossoms (the peanut butter cookies with Hershey's Kisses)
Pineapple Cookies (my grandmother's famous recipe)
Sugar Cookies
Mooncake (a light fluffy doughy cookie with confectioners sugar sprinkled on top then cut out like a moon)

That is what I crave for XMas
