A very deluxe toiletry set of her favorite scent, which was actually pretty pricey, not sure what else. There are a couple of things I've accumulated over the year at parties and events that I am quite tempted to re-gift to her, but I'm on the fence about that!!!

my mom likes to cook and has been wanting a few good pans and things, so i bought her a calphalon double burner grill pan/griddle and two calphalon skillets.

A CD because every time she hears this certain song she says how good it is
an orniment for the Xmas tree (its a hummingbird and she LOVES them)
a candle warmer....it heats the candle from the bottom so you dont have to light it and get soot in the house
and I got her a fossilized sand dollar...she collects stuff liek that and I tend to get her something like that each holiday/Bday
A nip of Lemonchello

Every year me and my sister go in on her gifts. this year we got her;
A waffle maker she requested that you can put the pans from it in the dishwasher.
This cool 3-D picture from a company we originally saw at the Big E.
Seinfeld season 6? I think
A box set of Cary Grant movies
A silver necklace from silverjewelryclub.com (which she's now obsessed with )
I know there's more but I can't think of what else!!

Money's a little tight this year with the divorce / house purchase. So I put in a little extra elbow grease into mom's gift. She told me whe wanted and aqua / teal winter scarf long enough to wrap around her neck a couple of times.
So I got some soft polar fleece and made her a scarf... mittens and a matching hat. All is left is the little embroidery I want to do to each item as a finishing touch.

Wow, some of you really go all out. My mom never requests anything, doesn't collect anything, doesn't have any hobbies really. She works and takes care of the house and goes on random trips with my dad.
All she ever says is "be happy" when we ask what she wants for birthdays or Christmas. She's soooo generous to us, so there's no way to repay that generosity.

Wow, I definitely don't spend that much on my family.
I got my mom a couple of sweaters w/ zippers or buttons. And a small personal fan. She's having crazy hot flashes and she needs to be able to strip down quickly, lol. :)

My mom really likes this Coldwater Creek store, but I HATE going in there. One time I was looking for something for her and the lady asked if I wanted to get a dressing room. I was all offended (I would never shop here for me!). Also, I'm rather petite and I was holding a size 16 skirt.
My mom is one of those people that saves things "for a special occasion" that never happens. Its so annoying because I'll get her a nice gift and she'll never use it, unless its clothes. But I HATE clothes shopping for her.

A box of Scottish shortbread and some gourmet coffee beans, some world music CDs, since she's been expanding her musical taste and she didn't have any Brazillian/bossa nova yet, a nice piece of jewelry, and a silky scarf I crocheted.

went in with my sis to get her:
-a tea kettle (she boils water for tea in a giant saucepan?)
-an alarm clock with nature sounds (she liked mine and said she wants one)
-a cashmere sweater & gloves
-framed pic I took of the Venus de Milo we saw at the Louvre earlier this month & she adored

Northern, you just reminded me!
My sister also made her one of those fleece blankets where you tie the two sides together b/c well it's effin' cold at her house and she needs more blankets :).
For me at least, it's wicked easy to shop for my mom/sister and so I tend to start early and just keep accumulating crap for them. Plus we need to make up for the asshole factor in her life...

I find things through the year for gifts....I found her some cute books...she likes to collect old storybooks with cute illustrations...I also got her a scented candle...some records (my dad hooked up the record player early this year again) and I have to go get one or two more things for her that she told me about this past weekend. Prolly a hallmark ornament and a cd...depends if they have both available for purchase. I really spent more on my dad this year than any other year I think ever! I don't see a dad link..shall we just switch this over to "What are you getting for your parents this xmas?
lol
I got my dad a computer, a beer light, a star trek book, and may go out and get him the james bond soundtrack cd. Oh yea and I got him some records too.

Normal vacation=visit family. Definitely a good thing, but not quite the "getaway" thing. They didn't even go on a honeymoon. So....to celebrate their anniversary this year, they're going to Atlantis. I figure it's not bad, for a first real no kids, no dogs, no family, no responsibilities vacation.

It's really hard to buy for my mom because she does very little besides play everquest, and if she wants something she usually just buys it.

My grandparents are like this, so I never know what to get. When I have the money (heh), I'd like to get my grandmother one of those bouquets of the month things, because it makes her happy to get flowers, but I don't have that kind of money yet.

I have never known either one of my parents to go on a vacation. I think its been 10+ years since my mom left the state and in my 25 years, I'd never seen my father go anywhere.

My parents had a honeymoon..and then since then they've gone on small trips every now and then. Nothing very fancy (sometimes just staying by the beach or going to LA for a weekend). They've also had a few trips separately...

My brother and I usually go in on gifts together too. We got my mom:
The Producers CD
Wicked CD
Wicked Book
Another book in the same series as Wicked (can't remember the name)
Pink Pashmina Scarf
It's also her birthday on the 23rd, so I try to get her at least 2 things.

I actually haven't planned on getting anything for my parents this year. My siblings and I at times have gone in together to get them gifts.
My brother, SIL, my parents and I will be in Hawaii from Saturday until NYE, so I didn't have a chance to get something for my parents and mail it out to them since I don't want to take it with me to Hawaii and have them take it back with them to CA.
So I think I'll treat them to something while we're in Hawaii. For my dad, I was going to get his watch fixed, but I didn't have enough time, so I'm going to wait until his birthday in May to get it fixed. It's an old Bulova watch and it takes about 2 weeks to fix and a good $170, too. He has not and will not wear any other watch since this one broke like over ten years ago! (Bulova watches are a good brand and they're really expensive.) And since it's been sitting in a drawer at my parents' house for some time now, I found it the last time I was home and took it back with me here to AZ where I'll get it fixed.
I'll probably make a call to my brother and sister tonight and see if they have any last minute ideas.

Mine still don't go on actual vacations, for that reason. They do go once every few years to a lake cottage in the northwoods in Wisconsin, which we went to a lot growing up, but only because it's owned by my dad's best friend and therefore free other than the gas to get there.
For their 20th wedding anniversary, they went to Ireland for a week, but that represented years of saving.

$75.00 gift certificate to Lane Bryant. (Got the same thing for FMIL as well). I also think I am getting a joint gift subscription for my mom & dad for Netflix since I am now addicted.
Last year was the nicer gift (a new computer). I also didn't have as much debt last year though!!

Considering how much money my mother has skimmed off of me since I went back to work, I'm inclined to be a real prick and not get her ANYTHING. Would I be condemned to Hell for that??
Besides, quite honestly, I don't feel like looking for anything.

Would it just be me who's got a really filthy mind around here? :) I never really get people christmas presents. Especially not my mom. It's just so difficult. She's one of those moms who'd rather you spend your money on yourself. So sweet. But I want to buy her a non-stick pan cause she uses too much oil when frying. I doubt it'll work; however! I got my twin sisters pretty necklaces + I want to treat my dad with a shave. Not sure, though.

I wish I could get something for her but this is my second Christmas since she passed away and I still find it weird/difficult not to be shopping for something special for her...
When she was alive, my mom LOVED unique artist jewlery so I would always try and find something unique for her...I saw a pair of Massaging slippers for woman in the Discovery channel store maybe that would be something nice to give your mother

My mom is the kind that goes "Oh, don't get me anything...." yet later that day when I asked her what she wanted, she ended up asking for some cooking things (she is the best cook in my family) so I got her a Corningware ceramic bakeware set. I hope it didn't break during the shipping process!

This year, I had some fun with my mom's presents. Her birthday was on the 20th, so I got her a black Coach wallet - she never had anything Coach, and she was so thrilled!
For Christmas, I knitted her a funky scarf (she is always looking at them when we go out), bought her this awesome cookbook that I swear by, some Starbucks/mug gift set. Also, I knitted her and my dad a blanket (to share - it was time consuming!)
I love, love, LOVE Christmas shopping and buying presents for people. I can't wait to give everyone the stuff I got them!

I don't knit, but I started crocheting this fall, and I haven't tackled any blankets, yet, they're so time-consuming . I've done quite a few scarves, though.

I got my mom a very pretty serving plate from the Annapolis pottery place - it's got a white matte glaze with hand-painted ferns (the woman loves ferns). I also got her Bette Midler's Christmas CD and a tiny little calendar (for her and my dad) that's a compliation of the Adventures with Dick and Jane reading books that she and my dad used when they were in grade school.

I am OBSESSED with the series that Cooks Illustrated has out. The first one I got (also, the one I got for mom mom) is called The Quick Recipe. I made some really delicious things, from Roasted Red Pepper Dip, Roasted Red Pepper Soup, Chocolate Mousse, Oven Fried Chicken and Sweet Potatoes, and much more. Next, I bought Cover and Bake, another one in the series, and my MIL got me Restaurant Favorites. The original book is called "The Best Recipe", and I have yet to get it. I need to throw all of my other cookbooks out since I only use these! Its cool b/c the authors try 40-50 different recipes to find the best one! They tell you everything they did to get each recipe that they include!
Also - Words - I want to learn to crochet! I have been knitting since I am 8 and took a class to brush up my skills! How did you learn?

My younger sister taught me, actually...she lived in a cooperative/service learning house as a college student, and their annual project was to crochet x number of scarves, blankets, hats, etc. for various charities and nonprofits. So she learned how to at school. I picked up some basic stitches from her, but am still learning.
It's really relaxing, though.

Its a wonderful stress reliever. I made a baby had for my SIL's new little one, and I had to crochet a border around it. My mom showed me how, but I don't know that I can do it again since I am always knitting! Keep learning, because the things you make are excellent presents!

I've been learning to knit since October when I started taking classes at an awesome yarn shop. I made five scarves for Christmas gifts. I still have to block a wool/llama one for a family friend. I made my other ones in baby alpaca the most amazing yarn ever.
I didn't give a scarf to my mom. She wanted lap quilting books. I searched on the web for her requested author and found hard to find books cheap. She loved them.
