View Full Version : What To Do For Weekend Fun?

So what do people do for fun on the weekends after college? I lot of my friends are joining that odd "ring-on-finger" club followed by admission to the "small animal resembling my wife and I now lives in the house" club. And I belong to neither of those clubs.

It isn't too much fun for my girlfriend and I to go to the bar alone. Wives are making friends sell their motorcycles because of "safety issues" so I no longer have riding buddies (of course it's winter now so that's moot anyways). My girlfriend and I went to a musical downtown a couple weeks ago. That was fun but also expensive ($140 for the two tickets + parking + dinner). And the theaters in Detroit haven't had exciting shows coming to town over the last few months (at least that I've noticed) so it is something that is at best a one night a month activity. I bought a new TV and Nintendo Wii (yes I spent 5 hours in line on opening day to get one). The Wii is spectacularly fun to play, but I simply can't spend all weekend staring at a TV as it hurts my eyes.

I'd love to hear what people do for fun now days. From cheap to expensive, I'd like to have a mix of activities to balance things out.

Thanks,
Ryan

I guess part of my problem is that I've been out of Detroit for so long between college and then living in Cincinnati for a year after that. The last summer I was home was after freshmen year of college (2001) and I spent most of that summer in Windsor (drinking age is 19, 'nuff said). So I don't really know what there is to do in and around the city. I've also been caught off gaurd by how quickly my friends "grew up" by joining those clubs I mentioned in the last post. The last problem is that I live in Grosse Pointe which is great if you're 40-50 and raising a family, but terrible if you're 24 and aren't married.

I do like the idea of exploring new areas. I'm living at home with the parents to save up cash for a down payment a year or so from now. Exploring could show us (gf and I) cool new things to do. It could also help me find a place to buy a house once I've saved up my cash.

Thoughts?

We went for a hike one day, and wandered past this farm and they had chickens. I freaking LOVE chickens (though they arent my favorite animal). I think they are funny how they peck peck and then scoot back to look for grubs and other things to eat.

So my BF was in hysterics over how much I enjoyed them, so we kept going back.....every so often now on a Sunday he suggests we go and see them.

It morphed too....I was flying over water, and I hate flying over water, he asked why and I told him sharks......then I got silly (I was half asleep) and made up some story about how chickens and sharks mated and made Charks, Basically Chickens with a BIG shark fin on their back.....and they live in chark caves that they dig out of the dirt, and the wander on land too, only when you come close they go underground so they are hard to find (dont ask we think its hysterical though)

So he actually asks if I want to go and see the charks, and we pretend to look for their fins.

I even made him a chark for his Bday.....bought a shark stuffed animal and a chicken....took the fin off the shark and put it on the chicken....voila.....CHARK.
