Anyone else totally weirded out by the east coast weather? Here in Albany it's currently 63 degrees. On January 6  . Typical weather for early January would usually consist of snow and possibly negative temps.

I'm weirded out but I'm going to enjoy it while I can. It's 66 around me. I might play some golf today. Do you think we'll get snow this winter? I'm thinking it might be in march if anything.

Do you think we'll get snow this winter? I'm thinking it might be in march if anything.I don't know, it's not looking good. I would have liked to have gone skiing before now, but we've barely even gone below freezing most days. At this rate, it seems like we might get snow in February but by March it'll be back to spring.

And I'm about to go out and enjoy the weirdness too :D.

It's supposed to be 70 here today. I am going to make something to eat, and then possibly take a long walk down by the beach:D .

I hope this isn't the calm before the storm.........I could deal with temps like this a lot of the year.

My first thought this morning when I woke up was It's hot!
I had the window cracked the night before and a fan on and my apartment is 75 degrees. I believe it's suppose to get to 70 today. I feel like I should bust out the flip flops today.

Yeah, I'm gonna try to get a tee time this afternoon. Instead of skiing, I'm golfing. In January!! Insane!!

I got an e-mail from a nearby ski mountain and they closed this weekend.

I remember when I was little playing outside all winter long, building snow forts, sleigh riding and tubing and what not. It seems as the years go by, snow like that doesn't exist anymore.

It's 65 out here. I woke up sweating b/c it was so hot in our condo. I don't mind though, I really don't like the cold weather. I just wish the SUN was out!

It was 49 degrees here when I woke up this moring around 9.

I heard on the news that it was the first time since the late 1880s that New York didn't get any snow in the month of December. That's crazy!

I was in 80 degree weather during Christmas but that was because I was in Hawaii. I don't want to see anything higher than 70 here in Phoenix until the summer!

Last winter the Phoenix area broke a record and went over 140+ days without any measurable rain. It then finally rained in March and nearby north Scottsdale got some snow flurries!

Yea, this morning I had to kick the covers off of me and I was still hot.

And I totally busted out the flip flops. This is the kind of winter weather I like. I'm just going to be sad when it gets cold again.

Today my roommates and I cleaned up the house so we were kind of inside all day, but we had all our windows and the back door open so we still got to enjoy the weather. I would have gone for a ncie walk outside had I not been so busy.

Don't knock it. It's bringing crude oil down. :p Mild weather means less heating oil use.

Temps are above normal here right now. I'm sweating when it hits 50, so it has to be above normal.

I went for a jog in shorts and a T today but it was still to cold because it was real windy. Oh well.

Yeah, this warm weather in January is messed up. I personally don't like the cold, but it's not good for our eco-system when winter isn't winter. Someone told me the cherry blossoms in D.C. are blooming way before they should be. I'm up here in New England and just a couple days ago, I got a mosquito bite. That's not right if insects aren't hibernating or dormant in January.

now ya'll get a little taste of southern weather year round! I think Colorado took all the cold weather from the east coast. Crazy Coloradians.

i heard today that we in NYC could face a drought this summer if this crazy weather continues and we don't get any snow this winter.

personally, i think this weather sucks. no snow= no skiing. also my parents are getting killed with their business. oh and my asthma/allergies are as bad now as they are in spring. big fun.

let it snow!

Any state with ski or other winter resorts that haven't had substantial snowfall yet are suffering. Even the machine-made snow melts.

It's actually freezing in my building this morning. From what I am guessing, the temp went down into the low 40's last night, but they never turned the heat on. I am bundled up!

It was 69 in BOS on Saturday...a record for the date (the all time record was 72).

Central Park tied their all time record for the month of January, with a high of 72 degrees. For comparison sakes, that is the average high temperature for 21 MAY!!!!! In fact, it was so warm that La Guardia Airport beat their record high at 6 in the morning (which is when the low occurs)! Some of the cherry blossoms have been blooming.

Here is the science:

Many people may question whether this is due to global warming. It may play some role, although it is questionable whether it's significant. There are other factors involved that are in play. First of all is El Nino. Historically, El Ninos have meant warmer than normal conditions over the Northeast and Midwest due to teleconnections that induce a buckling of the jet stream. There is another factor, called the North Atlantic Oscillation, which is a pressure anomaly differential between Greenland/Iceland and the Azores. It has been positive, which means there is a low pressure over Greenland. This would induce a ridge over the East Coast, and hence, higher temperatures.

One thing worth noting...there should be a cold outbreak over the next week or so, and temperatures will return to near normal. However, there does not appear to be much chance for a significant snow at this point. Also, even though it will get colder, it doesn't appear that it will be extraordinarily cold.

That's what I've been trying to figure out. I read that there will be an arctic front coming into the Northeast next week. I am planning a trip towards end of next week but even with the colder weather, I have no idea if there will be enough snow to make for good skiing conditions. I doubt that will be a lot of natural snow (rain/snow shower is forecasted), but perhaps resorts may start their snowmaking later in the week. It's all up for grabs, so I can't finalize plans right now...

It depends. I would suspect that the manmade snow will be on full blast once temps dip below freezing. But how much before next week is up in the air. I guess the further north you are the better off you'll be.

I concur. I cant stand no snow. It is really pissing me off. I went to Blue Mountain last week and people were literally skiing on grass.

This morning it was okay though

I've had the opposite problem. . . live in a large, old, NYC building with the super-strong, loud, steam heat at all hours (including this past weekend!) Since I've moved in, the indoor temp has not fallen below 80 degrees, and I've kept the windows open. I tend to get cold easily, so I'm not complaining. . . although having the heat cranked this weekend *was* a bit much.

It's 77 degrees here in Phoenix which is unseasonably high for this time of the year. By the end of the week and through the weekend the highs will be in the 50s. I don't mind the cold weather. The hot summer can wait! LOL

Its all due to El Nino. Next year we will be dealing with the effects of La Nina and it will be super cold and dump tons of snow on us.

Happens every 5 years. 5 years ago I was graduating college and it was unusually warm all season long.....the following year the snow was intollerable and the year after we had a blizzard every week.

Enjoy it while you can.

Im enjoying a $100 DECREASE in my heating bills currently. That and not having to deal with snow, ice, snotcicles etc....Im not going to complain.

I hope spring comes early this year too and we have an extended time of warm weather!

Actually, the ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscillation) cycle lasts two to seven years. The last Nino was 02, and before that 97, so it has been five years in recent years. However, it can vary...there was a very prolonged El Nino between 91 and 94.

And Nina doesn't necessarily mean colder weather. We've had several recent La Nina years that were above normal in temperature. Usually a neutral ENSO will give you the coldest wx.

I noticed it was snowing when I left Bk (about 8:20) but not when I got to the city 40 minutes later. . . I know a lot time the weather is different in the boroughs-- did it even snow at all in the city? Did it all melt by the time I got here?

Question unrelated to anything- why is it called wx? We use that term a lot on my super-nerdy airliners forum to describe well, weather. Where does the x come from?

Because the X is understood to be the rest of the word weather, I would guess.

Same as Hx being history. I had a HS teacher who did that, and I picked it up from her. As many history classes as I had, it was an incredible timesaver.

(Now I don't get where Rx is prescription. What does the R stand for?)
