So my lease is up in a couple of months...actually it was going to be up at the end of February but I had it extended to March. So here's my master plan...

I just moved out to the Chicago area from California last year in August. Since I was new to the area I figured I would live someplace close to work, which happened to be in the Oakbrook near Lombard. The plan was to live near work during the fall and winter so that I wouldn't have to deal with driving in the snow...this maybe surprising but we don't get much snow in Southern California.

Now once spring and summer comes around I would move out to downtown to be in the middle of all the action. One major problem is my 15 minute commute would balloon to a 1 hour commute. Second parking will be an issue out in the city. Last the friend's I have made out in the burbs have told me we'll rarely hang out once I live far away.

I'd live out in the city for another 6 months or so until fall/winter rolls around. By that time I will hopefully make up mind whether I am ready to buy something and where to live somewhat permanently.

I personally think it's worth it to brave the commute and rent just to get the experience of living in a city. I've always lived in the suburbs and I think it would be fun to change things up.

So what do you guys think? I'd like to hear the pro's and con's of living in the city, including horror stories so I know what I am up against. Also suggestions of places to live in downtown would be cool, I am thinking somewhere north of the Loop in the Wrigley or Lincoln park area. Last if anybody has suggestions on websites or even apartment finder companies I can use will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time! :)
