I had Verizon for about a decade. I had a phone and the battery wasn’t holding a charge and I was due for $100 credit to a new phone in about 3 months.

They wouldn’t work with me to let me get a phone with the partial credit (not the entire $100) they wanted me to buy a battery at $40, then trade the phone in when I could upgrade.

The bills were OUTRAGEOUS, and they had so many service charges and fees.

I switched to T-mobile. All the dead zones I have with Verizon when driving around….GONE. I got a new phone FOR FREE, and my bill is $40 less PER MONTH.

Also, in their contract lets say my phone battery with my new phone does what my old phone was doing when I was with Verizon….they will give me % credit of my $100 towards a new phone to purchase a battery if its what I want, OR to get an entirely NEW phone.

So I say T-Mobile!

I think everyone has a preference, and you can find someone who will curse each phone company you mention. It all depends on the area, and the services you use.

Hmm might be hard to get a recommendation that everyone agrees with. I really like Cingular but I know people who loathe it. Same with all the other companies. There are always lovers and haters. (And you hear more from the haters.)

I'd have to agree; i've had Verizon forever and it's one of the chosen few that can sorta work at my house and loses service the least in my area.

I have Cingular for about nine years now (it used to be two other companies, then they eventually got bought out by Cingular).

Anyway, I don't have any problems with them really, though I don't use my cell phone as my main phone either. I get excellent cell phone reception just about anywhere I go.

The rest of my family (mom, dad, brother, SIL, sister, FBIL) all have Verizon and they can call each other for free because they're all with the same cell company. I refuse to switch over because I like Cingular and I have a land line that I use a lot more.

I have the basic plan for my cell - 200 anytime, 1000 nights and weekends and I upgraded to 200/month text messaging because I use that a lot now. My bill ends up being about $42/month.

I hear AllTell is pretty good too. I never heard of them until I moved out here.

I'm really happy with Amp'd Mobile but the downside is they only offer 3 different phones.

Depends on where you live... Verizon is awesome here, Sprint sucks and everything else is hit or miss.

Exactly. Trial and error are the only ways to figure out what'll work for you.

I have Cingular here and have absolutely no problems. But it def. depends on where you are, because in VA the service sucked @$$. And I've never had any over charging issues with them.

we have verizon. you have to watch them. they renewed our contract (without our consent) and overcharged us and then i reported them to the BBB and they sent us back our money. but i don't have a choice about providers since most don't work in VT.

if they overcharged you and you can't get satisfaction/a refund from them, file a complaint online at bbb.org.

Cingular won't exist very soon FYI... it will become AT+T again. I moved out of my state and Cingular works better than the state i originally used it in. LOL

Verizon has been a pain in my ass since day one, but at least I can talk to my bf whenver since it's free. They gave me a crapass phone that does not keep a charge, never lets calls to me go througgh (people bitch that it always goes to voicemail), and it freezes up all the damn time (i have to remove the battery just to get the phone going again). Stupid verizon. But I hate cingular too. I think i just hate the cell phone industry and I can't wait til I move so I can get a freaking land line for once/

I would have to say Sprint is one of the better national companies in the Green Bay area. The plan I'm on is 450 anytime minutes, unlimited nights/weekends, free Sprint to Sprint, long distance, and no roaming - all for $40 a month. I'm due for a $150 credit towards a new phone pretty soon, and I'm planning on adding 300 texts per month for an addition $5 a month when I go in to get the new phone.

Is there some kind of website that shows you who has the best coverage in a certain area? Seems like there should be a website devoted to that.

I'm pissed to hear that Cingular is changing its name to AT&T because AT&T are a-holes. I got rid of them when I ditched my phone line when it asorbed SBC. I wonder if after the change AT&T as a brand name is going to look bad because it hasn't been used in years and now it's a big blue monster eating up companies and giving it its crappy name. They better not take away my Anytime minutes and rollover.

I've had Verizon for about 2 years now. So far it's been pretty good for reception, and I get a great discount through my company's employee purchase plan. I finally found a phone I like on Verizon but Nokia is stepping out of the CDMA market so I don't know what phone to go to next.

Before Verizon I had Sprint, which was awesome in the larger cities, but reception was very spotty and almost nonexistant in the rural areas. I think it may have been my phone, but I've heard from friends that they had the same problem.

So I guess it all depends upon where you live, what phone you have, and your odds of getting a good customer service rep.

I already love them, they charged me 50 dollars for ringtones that I never downloaded. If I don't get the credit on next month's bill, I am definitely canceling my contract.

Cingular has been AT&T forever, they're just using the name, now. But it's been AT&T's wireless subsidiary for years. It was founded by SBC and BellSouth when it was first introduced, both of which are now AT&T.

Back when T-Mobile was just Voicestream Wireless, I didn't like their service (dropped calls and random deadspots), so I dropped them as soon as as they started the mobile number portabilityy initiative. I've been on Verizon ever since.

Verizon in the DC area has the cool distinction of working while you are riding on Metro underground. I almost wish NYC subway had that same feature.

I agree Verizon is expensive but it works like a charm here. All my friends have other companies and complain that in certain areas they cannot get service or they have problems with dropped calls.

I was looking to dropping Verizon but what is the point of having service you can barely use? So I renewed with Verizon and decided to just suck it up for now.
