First, Yaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, now this will be the first business trip I've been on where I don't have schoolwork and will actually have my evenings free to explore. I've never been there before, any sugggestions on places to go, things to do, things I should see, places to eat? I'll be there from a Mon. to Sat. Any cool spots for a Friday night?

I'm so excited!!!!!
:) :) :)

Ugh...I hate Tijuana. If you go there, be prepared to be ripped off. Both times I've gone something bad has happened. A bar ripped us off....2nd time my car got booted at the US border.

Yeah, if you want to go to Mexico, its better to go further in. Tijuana is crappy.

I was not impressed with TJ at all! Unless you're under the age of 21, it's really not that great.

Check out the Gas Lamp District for your evenings. What part of San Diego will you be staying in? You may definitely need a rental car to get around.

The Wild Animal Park and Zoo are great places. And don't forget the beaches!

My sister graduated from UCSD and lived near La Jolla. And I have lots of family there so it's an area I know from a non-tourist perspective.

Oh and if you like Mexican food, Alberto's carne asada french fries! Yummy!!!

been there. haven't really experienced it for myself though. been there with family. don't know much. i think the zoo is part of a big park called balboa park. i diddn't get to c all the zoo. wonder if ill go there soon. im in the oc w/ my sister and family. was supposed to go there for new years but didn't. gaslamp district is one of the major areas for nightlife per my limited knowledge and perhaps daylife. i think it's downtown.

This is where I'm staying:

I have no idea what part of town this is in but if I go anywhere, I'll be cabbing it.

Well if you're just going to be cabbing it, then stick with the downtown area since La Jolla is a ways away. The beaches by where you're staying are nice too.

Seaport Village (I think that's what it's called) is a good coastal touristy area. Balboa park is nice, too.

You'll find the Gas Lamp/Downtown area very touristy but it's decently clean and fun. Definetely check out Coronoda island. Horton Plaza is an outdoor mall in downtown. Pretty nice place but nothing special. Fashion Valley and Mission Valley are the other malls in the area and they're a bit better than Horton. Stay clear from Chula Vista mall it's not that great.

Don't forget to visit the USS Midway. The closest beach is Mission Beach and that's the most touristy/famous one. You also have Pacific Beach which seems to be the hip college hangout and then La Jolla which is a bit farther up north.

As far as TJ is concerned do no take a car there. It's better to take the trolley and then walk across the bridge into TJ. Do not bring credit cards etc... but make sure to bring enough cash. Depending on what you're looking to do you can go on a weekend or a on a weekday. Believe it or not TJ can be a very fun place to go clubbing and on the weekends the place is pretty crowded and fun. Watch out for pimps trying to solicit you off the streets. Just tell them "estoy bien gracias" and keep walking. If you're looking for more primal pleasures then go during the weekdays for a discount and better selection. Not speaking from experience but heresay.

You could potentially rent a car and drive up to LA to check out the scene there. Of course that is a very big area but it's only a 2.5 hour drive so it might be worth it. Also don't forget Sea World and Shamu but it's more of a family thing. Legoland California is also closeby.
