View Full Version : complaining about weather stuff

This is inspired by Smiles' comment, but NOT directed to her.
Is it just me or do New Englanders not complain that much about the weather? Or rather, those who are native to their current location complain much less about the weather?
I've noticed that many people on the boards who've moved are the biggest "weather whiners." I'm not trying to start a huge war, just curious--didn't you check the weather before you moved??? :p

People where I am bitch and complain about the weather non stop, and most are natives to the area.
Those that moved here....say like my BF and his crew who are all from HI, bitch and whine if the temp goes below 50 that its freezing, I laugh in their face and tell them they decided to move here!

I just don't whine too much. When it's really hot or really cold, I might get a little unhappy, but it's just a part of NE living.

I complain when there are major extremes in the weather, even though I am from here my whole life (NY area). It also sucks when the spring weather starts for a day or two, and then it's back in the 30's and snowing/freezing rain.

I grew up in Houston,TX and I still bitch about the weather. Its my number one reason for moving. I bear no bones to people who want to complain about 95+ degree 100% humidity for 3+ months out of the year.

Ehh... It's purely circumstantial. I usually don't complain too much. The only thing that bugs me is that, b/c I'm single, I'm always expected to be here while the married with kids people get to call in sick for days to stay home when the kids don't have school. It's annoying.
Like, tmw is a good example. We're supposed to get a foot of snow tonight. I'll just wear boots and snowpants to the parade. What can you do? Stay inside from December til March?

You can do what I do...and use a sick day for a snow day. Sorry, I can't come in, it's really bad here...oh well.... ;)

I don't mind the 90-degree weather. It's just here a lot sooner than it usually is. 90 degree temps usually occur in late April then from mid-May until September/October with of course temps in the 100s and 110s+.
We went from freezing night temps last month to above average highs in the last week.
And I know I'm not native to AZ, but I enjoy the weather here. It's the non-residents of AZ (like my family) who think Phoenix is 110 degrees year round.

Same here. It's the extremes that get me like 100+ days and anything under 40. But lately, its been so damn wacky.
We broke a record on Wednesday, when it hit 82 and today we're expecting freezing rain and some snowfall...2 days later!

I never understod the point of complaining about the weather, that's just the way it is, nothing you can do about it.
I've always lived in the northeast, and hear all kinds of compliants from people who moved here from other parts of the country, and the only response that comes to mind is "well that's the northeast, if you dont like it, dont live here"

Well its just like anything else that annoys or bothers you and particularly if you find others who feel the same. Believe it or not, but weather actually affects people, their moods and plans. Commenting, complaining is only natural.

I caught an LA radio station one time when it was raining, and they had this homorous public service announcement that told people that just because it was raining in LA, it did not mean the world was coming to an end, and that it was only the same stuff that comes out of those bottles they pay $2 a piece for. It went on and on....funny stuff...

I don't understand people complaining about people complaining about the weather :p
It's a rather common thing to comment on, it's just about the only thing you are guaranteed to talk to a random person about that won't piss them off, most people don't get on your case about mentioning it. Well, around here anyway :)

I'm not complaining! I just thought it was an interesting observation.
I think it's so random when people start talking about the weather. There's this one lady at work, and she's always "anyone hear what the weather's going to be?" Or "can you believe how cold it is outside?" ETC ETC ETC Everyday, and often.

Yeah, my room was probably between 55-60 degrees in the winter if I shut my door. It's a cape that had an unfinished attic for the top floor the first few years after the house was built. They put insulation in the floors. When they finished the upstairs, the heat wasn't exactly adequate for the size of the rooms, so none of the heat from downstairs would make it into the rooms unless the door was open.

But anytime any of my friends bitch about the weather, my standard comment is You live in New England! LOL. I only really complain about the weather in the summer. I'm a born and bred Florida girl and the humidity is the worst down here. No fail, every summer someone who just moved here starts to complain about the heat. Umm its Florida, what were you expecting??

Oh, yes. It certainly is. But it's not humid the way it's humid here. It is a different sort of thing. And it is humid ALL dang year. It is humid from about April to November. Then it gets a little cool and more pleasant, but it ramps back up again purty quick. It's not the same thing. I grew up in the northeast (mid atlantic whatev). It's humid there too, but it's not the same as Florida humid. (Actually, I find Louisiana to be a helluva lot more humid than the Sunshine State on the whole).

I live in St johns Newfoundland. So to me i have no idea if you guys are just winners or not. When i say it never gets to warm here i lie. There's about 5 or 6 days a summer that get hotter than 25 degree. I'm not sure what people mean by good weather. I mean it's rainy and windy in the fall and spring. The summer is just mild, nothing to complain about except when it rains. Whoever the winter we get alot of snow and wind and all that. I really have no idea though if it's worst than anywhere else. For me it sucks that you can't sit outside and enjoy the weather for more than june and july, half of which it rains. I say we spend half the year freezing, a quarter getting rained on, and the quarter where it's just nice, only half of which has descent temps.

I'm originally from upstate NY and I don't know what they'd do if they didn't have crazy weather. Deep down they all love it and that's why they talk about it so much!!
On the other hand, people rarely talk about weather in SoCal because it's the same practically everyday. It's probably the western NYer in me, but I love it when it rains. Finally, something different!

I've lived in South Dakota my whole life. But I still complained that it snowed a bit yesterday, and I still complain about the wind, even though it's windy 5 days out of 7, I complain when the highs don't get above 0 and I complain when its above 100 and humid.
It doesn't do any good at all. But it does do my heart good when people think I'm crazy for saying it's nice out when its 60 degrees, windy and raining. Or when you see people wearing heavy winter coats on TV and it's only a "frigid" 40 out.
I could move, but I think I might just miss the crazy Midwest weather.
I guess I didn't realize how crazy the weather is other places as well, what a sheltered life I live....
