Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster. I'll skip the intro of my QLC as it is pretty much the same as everyone. My question is work related.
I have been at my first "real" job out of school (I am 25), I hate it. It has been 1 year and 3 months I have been going through this. Every dayI feel so horrible being there and it makes me really anxious. The only reason I am still there is because I don't want to give up for some reason. It is affecting all parts of my life etc . . . To make things difficult I don't even want to work anywhere in my field which makes finding another job even harder. I have had enough. Any suggestions? I know quitting would not be the best solution but it looks really good right now.

Thank you everyone.

We'll all get through this.

Welcome! What do you do now? What would you like to do in the future? What do you hate about your current job? I find making a list of basic questions can help in determining which next steps to take.

Well, there are two options here. If you decide you have to quit, you need to figure out something else you want to pursue and do that. If you can't make up your mind on what you want to pursue, then you just have to make the best of your current job. Good luck!

I guess I am just frustrated because I STILLLLLLL don't know what I want to do. Thanks for the suggestions I will keep them in mind.

Any leanings at all? Any non-career interests that might be useful in discerning a good professional fit?

ptp,

Oh man, I know what you are going through and that can not be fun...the thing that I would say is too keep your chin up for a while and don't let the job thing get you too upset. Think of it as a temporary exile from what you really want to do...you only have to put up with it until you can find a way to get to your desired goal. Though it may seem permanent, I have a hunch that the universe aligns itself in a way that you can reach a place of happiness. That may sound kinda corny, but I think the opportunities will present themselves, and you will know it when they do...

Find some things that you love outside of work...it helps for balance...

Hey if you ever need some advice from a guy who's been through it (I am not doing what I LOVE for money, but I am doing something that I don't despise and filling a chunk of my time with my passion), PM me...I would be glad to help...Also, there are many on here who have gone through this and you have definitely come to the right place. Most people on this board are very intelligent and insightful.

Jay.

I agree with the people who suggested looking at it at a more basic level? What specially do you hate? Is there any way to cut it down at your current work or find another job where it (whatever it is) isn’t so prevalent? It can be frustrating to still not know what you want to do but I’d try your best to disconnect that from day-to-day discomfort.

Thank you for the advice, I feel a little better knowing I am not alone. My passion is music, I play guitar and can listen/read/learn about music all day...it's one of those things where I lose all perception of time when I get involved. I am thankful for that. I found everyone to be very understanding on this board, I hope to be posting more.
dacrunkest - I'll pm you soon, I am in a hurry now and have to head out.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH EVERYONE! :)

hey man...whenever...good to hear from another member of the union.

I know the musician's passion to just rip of the tie and go play...I know how to lose a good three or four hours on a piano myself...trust me, it can be tough. I remember I was working one job that I absolutely hated, and I so in my offtime I engrossed myself in a large project (small-time radio jingle - but that's a large project when your entire studio consists of a Roland Fantom S-88, a fourthhand VS-880, a ripped copy of Pro-Tools and a couple 16b digital mediocre monitors in your bedroom). That took my mind off my crappy job for a good month and half.

As soon as my piano gets to my new apartment, I am going to try and get some students...that's a good way to find happiness for me. Seriously, I hope all goes well for you...if you have any downtime at work visualize playing...that's what I do sometimes.

I know how you feel. I'm in the same position. I've hated my job since the day I started. And now it's almost two years later (1 year and 8 months to be exact).

Like everyone else said, you really need to look at what you hate about your job. And think about what you'd like (or at least kinda like or wouldn't mind doing). I should've done this a LOOONG time ago when I knew I needed to find a new job.
