Saw this story on CNN just now. There's a video link in the story that says, "Watch bleeding victim on floor, suspect at gunpoint". There's no way in hell I'd ever want to watch that video. Ever. Makes me sick just thinking about it.
These kind of things are online all the time and I always wonder if people really watch the videos and if so, why? Do any of y'all actually watch these? And oh my gosh, what about the family of the victim? Can you imagine seeing a video of your loved one bleeding to death on the floor after they had just been shot??

Watched the video, its just footage from outside the building, you cant really see anything.
As for watching videos like this, yes I watch them. Watched the really graphic one of the guy getting his head cut off in Iraq a few years back.
Why do I watch them? Mostly because its the human condition, to see what we are capable of, and how uncivilized we can be.

No, I don't even click on them. I don't need certain images in my head.

I had to take a class in undergrad called Media Ethics, and one of the big topics we discussed was graphic material. The entire class basically boiled down to debating whether newsworthiness outweighed potential harm.

I watch them. I didn't want to watch the Nick Berg beheading but I finally did. Feeling horrible the whole time i was watching.
That is what we humans are capable of. Its so horrible.

That's interesting. Just curious, what were the main arguments that to support the claim that posting a video with graphic content is newsworthy? That doesn't make sense to me, especially in this capacity, with a video accompanying an article. The article already says everything, so what's the point of showing the video too?

I agree. I don't have any stomach whatsoever for movie violence; I certainly wouldn't be able to watch a video that was of an actual violent act.
