Anyone else have this condition, if yes what can you tell me about it and how it affects you?
I was just diagnosed today...

It's something ear-related, no?

Actually it is pretty fricking devestating news, they say the hearing loss is gradual but I have no idea if that means 5 years 15 years etc.
I am trying not to dwell on it but I am definitly scared by it.

How did you find out? Had you had problems hearing? Or was this discovered randomly?

I have had noticable reduction in my hearing over the last 5 years, so I made an appointment for a "check-up" and to have my ears cleaned out and then had a bunch of hearing tests done and that is when they diagnosed me...it is genetic apparently, and my brother was diagnosed with something similar... It all depends on how much gradual or fast my hearing will go moving forward, I have to get my hearing tested yearly to every 6 months if their is a continuation of hearing loss...
I am hoping I won't have to get hearing aids for a while... and then the surgery is an option but it is a "last resort" type of thing if the hearing loss continues... I haven;t told anyone but my brother and sister so that they can get tested, I am not sure i am going to tell my Dad yet, he isn't good with that type pf thing I am going to hold off telling him until my hearing loss becomes quite evident i think...

Oh Deavan, I'm sorry. Hang in there. Are there any support groups you can involve yourself with?

Oh my goodness! Deavan, I'm sorry. I wish I had something helpful to say. I agree with the support group recommendation (or maybe start one on your own?).
