I've been there and it's beautiful. Just going to San Juan as a tourist is a lot of fun. Luckily, I went to the island with "natives" so I got a tour of the whole island and had a blast! Didn't have to pay for a hotel either because I stayed with my friend's family which was an added bonus. We didn't go to the big rainforest there (forgot the name) but if I ever go back, I'd like to check it out.

My parents are orginally from PR, so I go to the island quite often. The rain forest is called "El Yunque" and its about an hour drive from San Juasn. Definitely worth the trip. Are you in San Juan? You'll want to check out Old San Juan, it has great shops, history and places to eat.
PM me if you want more tailored suggestions (i.e. good bars/clubs or places to eat)

My brother's girlfriend is from there. She is v pretty. I saw photos of her family home which had banana and mango trees in the backyard- lucky!!!! I saw some beach photos
.. there is a sort of stone wall/fort thing there at the seaside and these stone watchtower things from long ago. Im not sure what they are for, I dont know much American or South American history lol! We didnt study much of that in school.
But anyway it looked v nice.

There's also a couple of biolumenescent bays where you can kayak at night. Truly an awesome sight. The one I went to was off of Vieques. The other one, I hear is more lumenescent.
What kind of activities are you into?

THat actually sounds amazing. My friends and I are not really the outdoorsy types though. Pretty much up for anything else.

There was a gorgeous girl who sat next to me in my soc class last semester who had grown up in Puerto Rico. She said that she moved to the US to raise her son here, because the rate of violence in PR is apparently quite high, at least in the area that she's from. She said the traffic is also terrible, and that people tend to have major road rage.
I have an adopted sister who is half Puerto Rican. She's always had a terrible temper as well. I think it might be something about living that close to the equator.

Coming from the perspective of a kid of Puerto Rican parents, the crime rate is just as high as any major U.S. city. Yes, they have traffic and crime, what major city doesn't?
As a Puerto Rican female, i am a little annoyed by that last line. Don't generalize.
