View Full Version : The non-wedding thread....

Not married, nor getting married soon, so not much to discuss there. No kids, nor plans to have kids anytime soon (if ever), so not much to discuss there. Who on earth wants to talk about work? What else is left for QLC retirees?

:)

Hobbies. There's a good one. What does everyone like to do in their spare time now that they're Over the Hill? :p

I write (mostly poetry), I love to read, I love traveling even more (especially road trips), and I enjoy football. I am a Chiefs fan. I was trying to learn more about them, and I learned a lot about football in general. It's much more complex than I had originally thought. I love the learning process. Anything to expand my mind.

Just because one is married, doesn't mean they don't have time for activities and hobbies anymore.

I'm sure you meant this thread as tongue in cheek, but some people might find it offensive.

I don't believe I ever came close to even implying that. If it comes across that way, I'm very sorry. I just noticed the only thread was on weddings. So I thought I make one not about weddings. I meant for it to be a free for all, talk about whatever you like thread. Again, I apologize if I offended you.

There's only one thread about weddings here, and a million not about weddings.

Just the title alone suggests that this board is becoming overrun with wedding talk, and I don't think this is the case.

I only noticed the one in the QLC Grad sub-forum. I really didn't mean it towards you at all. Again, I'm sorry.

Is there anyway to change the thread title?

Oh! My mistake! I thought you meant the entire board.

A few months ago, maybe a year, someone started a thread "not about weddings" and things got ugly. Just watching out for potential drama.

It's cool.

Yes, if you edit the first post on the thread, it should have that option.

I can change it for you, if you tell me what you'd like the new title to be.

re: Hobbies, I'm training to become a fitness instructor, so I'm pretty much in a state of sore at all times. It's fun though, and the only way I get motivated to exercise is if it's fun. That's been taking up almost all of my free time lately, and will likely do so until the end of July.

My favorite hobbies are creative things. I take a lot of photos for work, but I like to do so on my own, as well, although I'm not trained, specifically.

I also am big into making blankets right now...I've got a couple of ones I'm in the midst of crocheting, and I've been saving/collecting blue jean scraps to make a frayed-edge denim quilt of bedspread size for a couple of years now.

I guess working out is my hobby. It just kind of happened. But I also like to paint and well watch tv.

I hear ya SWMO :D.

Let's see there's new music, bad tv, good/bad movies...

Though for hobbies, I seem to have grad school and quilting taking up the bulk of my time that's not also dealing w/ the above... and i just bough shit tons of scrapbooking stuff to do from my trip to Ireland and London. Though whittling down what to use is proving to be difficult :p.

And of course awkward and bad first date stories...

Good sex - hope so even more
Meeting new people - completely agree
Investment planning - something I should be paying closer attention to
Staying in shape - I've lost 47 lbs this year. I'm in the best shape I've been in since high school!
1980's trivia - hit me with your best shot

Good Sex - Eff it. Just give me a coke, please.
Meeting New People - Singles at 30 have apparently fallen off the earth.

Taxes - still no thanks
Death - I don't always hate my job, but at least it gives me somewhere to go five days a week.
Sex - still hoping
Good sex - I see your point
Meeting new people - Totally agree
Investment planning - I'm 100% vested in my 401k plan at work. I have 75% in a high yield, and 25% in lower yielding "safe" accounts (like money market).
Staying in shape - Fine thanks, and you? :)
1980's trivia - The Cosby Show.

Taxes - I encourage you to write that on your return. I hate taxes.
Death - I wish we could work for 50 years and then just take naps forever.
Sex - I'm not sure it even works anymore.
Good sex - Make it two cokes.
Meeting new people - So where did they all go?
Investment Planning - You're good. I'm told I'll soon make 6 figures. I'm behind the curve. I need to do this more.

Staying in shape - I'm good I suppose. I'm running 20-30 miles a month, but need to stop drinking these damn cokes and have more sex.

1980s Trivia - EHHHHHHH! No. The correct answer was Cheers.

Taxes - I may pay them, but you can't make me like it.
Death - So, basically, you want to die when you retire.
Sex - I've heard it's like riding a bike, although I haven't been on a bike in a VERY long time.
Good Sex - I'll settle for a waffle cone with Haagen Daaz vanilla bean ice cream.
Meeting new people - They're now married with children.
Investment Planning - I don't think I've earned five figures in my retirement yet.
Staying in shape - I'm a walker. I could walk for hours. It's a good way to gather my thoughts for some reason.
1980's Trivia - I'm not the greatest at pop culture. Or I was just more into cartoons and 80's music.

The first time I got on a bike, after it had been years since I'd ridden one, I damn near fell off the thing.

Oh ok.

I think the problem was that I wasnt holding on tight enough to the handle bars so I wasnt as balanced while pumping the pedals. I shouldnt have been in a hurry tho. Something to be said for slowing down and enjoying the ride. Ya know? :p

It's always good to start off slow and steady. Then, gain some speed and let go of the handle bars. What a rush.

I like how the non-wedding thread has turned into the thinly-veiled metaphor for sex thread. Are we not allowed sex threads anymore? We're all just so...pent up!

Here's an article for all of the knitters out here. I'm so excited by this article.

Hmm, I can't even think about marriage yet. I guess it would help if I had a boyfriend, though. :)
So who else loved to write? I write all the time--fiction, mostly. Plus, I really want to learn how to knit. My grandmother is a big knitter, and I'd like to take that from her.
And what about 90's trivia? We had a quiz night here that was just saturated with "Saved by the Bell." I'm not gonna lie, it was awesome.
