So just when I thought my life was getting together and blah blah. The senior management decides to change my role i.e. I wont have a job anymore.
Apparently this has nothing to do with my performance and they are willing to provide with solid references but I leave at the end of the month.
The good thing is I couldnt handle all the stress here anymore which had less to do with actual work and more to do with my senior coworker.
But I am getting stressed about "what next". I have the option of going back to school which would be really helpful and I have applied alrady but I am not sure if I should.
I am really really bitter at this point espesially because the company was doing really well and no one had complaints about my performance except that its a global corp and they decided to merge roles. FUCK
Dont know what the point of this post is except that a few words of advice and support would be useful :)

Well, you've been on the minds of a lot of people lately ;) so it's good to see you back.
I'm sorry that this has happened. How's the job market where you are?
Hang in there!

Damn, J-Girl, that sucks ass big time. I'm so sorry. Are they at least giving you some kind of severance pay or anything?
Well, I'd try to look at this as an opportunity to find something better suited for you and making a new start. Sorry for sounding seriously corny cause I know that's not much consolation right now.

Hey I am always here just didnt post as much hehe.
The job market is not too bad. I have spoken to a ahead hunter already and I might land an interview soon.
WS- you are right this is a new oppurtunity (and you dont sound corny) and I was getting miserable at this job. But I have only been here a year and I was willing to stick it out a year more so that my resume doesnt look to choppy.
I enjoyed the actual work and was getting comfortable with "Project Management" kind of roles. So I am wondering if I should get a certificate in PM part time or is full time a better option.
The good thing is my job search is more focussed. A year ago I was all over the place.
But still- FUCK!
I dont get severence pay since I was on contract and both my manager and GM were fighting for me to be permanent with global.
I have learnt my lesson and advice to everyone unless they give you a permanent position dont work for a global corp.

Can you get unemployment from the govt? I don't know if that's offered in Canada.

Hey J,
Good to see you back, was wondering where you were. I remember you mentioning in your posts way back about wanting to do a masters in public admin (correct me if I'm wrong) ?
If you still want to do that, you should. I mean you'd probably be knocked out of your comfort zone for a year or two, but you'll probably be happier in the long run.

Hi Crystal- work was keeping me busy (the irony).
I wanted to do an MPA but I changed my mind since I wouldnt want to spend two years on a Masters that only lets me work for the Government. I am sort of lured towrads Project Mgmt at the moment. I have applied for programs and at the same time apply for jobs for the next two months before school starts. If I get a good solid job then I am thinking of doing the said program PT instead of full time.
But if the job situation doesnt look too rosey, I will do it full time.

I do business analysis and project mgmnt for an asset management firm right now. There's definitely alot of demand out there for project managers, especially in the Financial Services industry. I think you should be ok :)
Maybe you could look into getting the PMI certification on the side?

Hey thats what I was thinking! More on the technical/Supply chain side though.
Have you done the certification? How hard is it. I have a BSc in CS and Math to put things in perspective. :)

Hehe, given your math background you should be fine.
I haven't done the PMI, but I did do a course in Project Management during my masters programs. We used the PMBOK book which was pretty useful. The PMI exams are pretty intense I believe, but since you work in PM already you probably have experience with cost budgeting, logistics, scope defining blah blah.

I have my feet wet in all those areas and thats why I think I would take some PM courses to get a more solid background.
