What do you do now that you hate so much?

I work in a small mom and pop repair shop. My office doubles as the kitchen so it pretty much always smells in here. I have to do all of the ordering and returns. The returns have all piled up because the companies make it so difficult to send stuff back that it gives me a headache to even think about it. FedEx has been delivering stuff late so I've got customers chewing my head off because stuff isn't here. Then I have my boss chewing my head off for not keeping up with everything. "Why didn't you check on that?" Because I'm fucking busy doing the million other things I do in this shitbox! I get overwhelmed and make mistakes, so I'm obviously not worthy of a raise which is probably why I haven't gotten one in three years+. This isn't even what I was hired for. I was a bench tech. I fixed things for a living. But it burned me out. I told my boss at the time I was going to quit and she offered me this job to keep me around. Try a change of duties. Well this isn't working either. Nothing's ever fucking good enough for anyone.

LOL. Office Space is my favorite movie for many reasons, but Milton burning down Innotech is right up there. I used to wish someone would burn down my place of employment because it sucked so bad. But as much as your job sucks it probably isn't wise to leave unless you have another one lined up. You never know how long it will take you to find another job. I've been looking for a job since graduating 3 years ago, and while I did find two jobs for about a 2 year period, they sucked and I was still looking. Got laid off 6 months ago and have been hardcore looking and still can't find sh**.

I know about Poland Spring because I grew up in New York State, but come to think of it, I have not seen it in Missouri, Pisces.

Our big brand is Ozarka. The source is from somewhere in Arkansas, and it is distruted to TX, MO, OK, KS, MS, and TN.

I must confess I have not really been looking for Poland Spring, though...so maybe it's in some stores down here...

I thought Ozarka came from a municipal supply in Texas. Some water comes from the tap water in Fort Worth, I think. Why in the hell would anybody want a bottle of tap water from the most polluted state?

We have Poland Spring here in IL as well, but not Ozarka.

Most of the bottled water in Illinois, and quite a bit throughout the midwest, is Hinckley Springs, which has been a Chicago company since the late 1800s...the men who started it did so due to the fact that the bulk of the citizenry was drinking untreated Lake Michigan water...ick...and everyone was getting typhoid, cholera, and dysentery.

That's weird that you have Poland Springs in your neck of the woods. . . because I thought Illinois was primarily "Ice Mountain" territory.

All of those water brands are with Nestle Waters of North America (Poland Springs, Deer Park, Ozarka, etc.)

Have to go back to this one again for a minute. I have this old LP record that I had ripped into mp3's where this guy was imitating Ted Kennedy talking on a CB radio; this was in the late 70's, when that was the big craze.

"Ah, please don't mention it, Road Apple, I'm ah, in-ah-cognito. I'm trying to cover my Mahssachusetts ahccent, and I'm sure that nobody will recognize it.

If you'll excuse me, I'm just going to turn into this dirt road and pahk the cah and listen to some of my favorite music on the 8-8 track cahsette."

"That would be Camelot, longtime Kennedy family favorite?"

"Ah negatory, Road Apple. Bridge Over Troubled Wahters."

Ah, not that it's really all that relevant, but I'm drinking a bottled of Poland Spring right now as I am typing this. Very refreshing water.

My family usually buy a box of Poland Spring water when we go to Costco.
I remember stopping by a Costco in California and looking all around before I said, "Hey, I can't find Poland Spring water here...." before I realize that it's not likely Maine water would be transported to the West coast....

Yeah, I've thought about it. I'm really torn because I like where I live so much, but to do any of that stuff I'd have to moved to NY or California (I REALLY can't see myself living in California). There's just too many people and not enough work. I don't know if I could handle the stress of it. But then again this place is starting to really stress me out. Plus I don't even know how to get into that kind of work. I took a workshop in Boston this year, but all it did was pretty much convince me what a pain in the ass trying to break in is.

I'm so glad I live in po'dunkville. No traffic, just farm trucks, school buses and small town stuff. I worked in Dallas for a couple of years and it would take me 2 hours to get to work (on a good day) and 2-3 to get home (on a really bad day). It was only a 65 mile drive too. I wouldn't do that again for all the tea in China.

As for my work space- I'm not unhappy. I work with my family so it has many perks..but at the same time, it's a pain because eventually everyone in the family knows everybody's business...oh well.

Do you live IN Ft. Worth?

I wasn't aware that it was podunk. I do live in a very small rural community, myself, with no traffic, farm traffic, school buses, and small town stuff.

No, I don't live in Fort Worth. I live in a suburb of Fort Worth called Burleson. The only famous thing that's happened to us is that Kelly Clarkson was from Burleson. I went to hs with her. She was a sophomore when I graduated. She was a peach but her mother IMO was more like a sour grape then a peach. Anyway, I guess B's like maybe 45 K rather small in comparison to DFW. I consider it to be rural and po'dunk since I've been all over the place and seen mucho grande places. I do love my po'dunk town. I feel safe here.

Gotcha.

I grew up in a town of 350, and currently live in a town of 7,000 (also been all over, and to much bigger places). So, yeah, different concept of podunk.

Cool about Kelly, BTW. She seems nice.

Yeah, po'dunk is subjective for sure!
on Kelly-If you ever get the chance to talk to her, IMO you'd like her. You seem like someone who'd get along with pretty much anyone.

Why am I still here? This place sucks. I got stuck behind three school busses coming to work, then I had to wait for the traffic cop stop me at the front of the line and let the 40 cars come through in the middle of one of the towns I drive through, then I get stuck on the bridge because it's one lane while they do construction. THEN when I get to work my passive aggressive boss asks me why I'm 45 minutes late. "I'm like ten minutes late!" Well of course all the clocks at work are 5 minutes faster than the rest of the planet, plus apparently this week I was supposed to be in at 8:30 instead of 9: 00, even though next week I'm supposed to be in at 8: 30 on Monday but apparantly it's not going to be the same day every week. Whatever. Why do I hate job searching so much when I'm so miserable here? You'd think I'd be motivated and eager to look for something else!

Probably b/c job searching sucks. But keep on truckin...I'm sure you'll find something that makes it all worth it.

Yeah well, I just got another "You're not doing your job right," speech. I'm doing my job the way I was trained to do it and the way I've been doing it. "Well, that's not right so do it this way instead." Do you know how much of a pain in the ass doing it that way is? "Well, it needs to be done that way."
