Ok here is the deal. I have worked as a branch manager for two years straight out of college. Without going into detail my manager has made my life impossible. One of those that anything you do is not good enough. Even though I lead the Number one branch in my city. Which has lead me to think maybe its time to go pursue my MBA full time. With the hours I currently put in I can't do both. It would be nice because of the tution being paid by the company but honestly it won't happen.

I thought of going to another bank but I honestly have been beat up by my boss and the prospect of focusing on school is really appealing. Even though it will be real tight with my finances.

Here are my options in a nutshell. Go to another bank which will pay more.
Go to school and get my MBA and return to the work force after a year to a year and a half.

Would you actually BENEFIT from getting your MBA? You're already a branch manager and lead the #1 branch in your city, what is getting an MBA gonna do for you?

Is it possible to cut back on your hours, or reschedule when you work, so that you can go to school too, even if it's part time?

If anything you do isn't good enough for this person, why would getting an MBA be any different?

The whole thought behind it is changing gears. Going back and redirecting my career path. Unfortunatly cutting hours is not an option.

Go to school at night. A lot of programs offer MBAs at night.

How would getting an MBA do that? I'm still not understanding what getting an MBA is gonna do for you besides put you in debt.

Go for it, man. You do need to know exactly what you want, otherwise, you will be right back where you are. I'm also getting ready for either MBA or MFE schools, but I only want to do part time so it won't increase my financial burden. How about getting another job and then go to MBA part time?

IF you don't work for a large bank, move to a bigger one. THere are better and bigger branches to be managed. I don't see what benefit an MBA would bring ... it could even work against you in terms of renumeration cost for future employers. In a bank, you could move to investments, mortagages, human ressources. What could you learn doing an MBA that would be relevant to your career path.

Could you just take night classes? I know some people who are working full time but they take one or two classes a semester toward their MBA. It'll take longer though.

You should really think about whether you need an MBA to do what you want or if it just sounds like the "thing" to do because everyone talks about it. I considered going back to grad school for a while, but I'm glad I didn't just jump into the decision because it probably wouldn't been a bad choice (and a waste of time and money).

Do you like what you're doing? Is it just the manager/work environment? If that's the case, I'd probably try getting a job at a different bank first. That might solve the problem.
