Here is the deal. Besides drowning and being totally lost I just moved with my fiancee to the Washington D.C. area. This was supposed to be a great thing since we've been trying to get out of Hawaii for the last two years. However, we've been here since June and I haven't even been offered one interview yet! I've been doing the temp thing, however I'm not sure how honest they have been with me...that's a whole other post!
I submit my resume, into the black hole, and I hear nothing. I contacted one of the hiring managers, via email, just to see if I could get any information out of her. She gave me the standard, if you are chosen we will contact you for an interview. Of course, they filled the job and I didn't even get called in.
I'm trying to volunteer with the American Marketing Association, which I am a member, but it has been like pulling teeth to get them to respond with anything. I did get an email back from one of the committee group leaders for a meeting in a couple of weeks, but haven't heard from heard again. I understand the best way to get a job is direct contact, but I don't know anyone out here that could get me connected.
What has worked for anyone else? Where else should or could I go to meet people? The fiancee is government employee, so she isn't much help. Any thoughts? Thanks!!
