View Full Version : So, how long?

I sent out resumes and applications two weeks ago, had my interviews Friday (I had 3 interviews in two hospitals). I sent out thank you emails and called the one area back on Monday (as I was told per my interviewer, to let the director know I was interested. Apparently on that floor they wont even check into your references unless you let them know you are interested so as not to waste their time).

So, how long does this process usually take? I was a fool and already told my property management I was leaving by the end of September, thinking that would be plenty of time, but now I am starting to worry (I am moving two hours away). Should I call them back after a few days or do I wait for them to call me? Another thing, my boss I have now has been known to blackball people, making it hard for them to get jobs. A coworker told me this is illegal as long as you are still working at the company. Anyone know anything about this? We are having lots of turnover right now because my boss is awful, but I am honestly leaving because I want to move to a different city.

I also dont have the best interviewing skills since I have severe social anxiety, so I have a have no idea what kind of impression I gave.

My assumption is that I will probably hear back by the end of the week or the beginning of next week at the latest. Does that seem right?

One more thing, since I had several interviews, and there is one job in particular I really want, if I do get a job offer is it ok to let them know I am still waiting to hear from a couple other interviews? Or do I have to accept/decline the offer right then?

I hate job hunting, it is so stressful!

How long it takes depends on the employer and their situation. I'd recommend asking when you should hear something back by -- personally, I'd ask that a week after your interview. You want to be persistent without being a pest about it.

It's better to ask during the interview (like at the end) when you should expect to hear back, but waiting a week should work too.

Well, the HR deparment called today to get some contact numbers for my references, so that seems kind of promising, at least I know they are looking into me and werent completely turned off by my interviews, right? I didn't ask how long it would be until I heard from them, I didn't want to seem pushy. Plus she called when I was sleeping (I work nights) so I wasn't on my best thinking behavior. I was nervous because the jobs were no longer posted online, but I assume now that this is simply because they are done with the interviewing process and are therefore no longer taking applicants?

The other hospital I applied at got back to me and she has one more interview next week, and said she will let me know by Wednesday, so at least I have a timeframe for that. If I dont hear back from the other hospital by then, I will give the HR a call. Does this sound reasonable? And I still ask my previous question, is it ok to tell them if I get offered the job that I am still waiting to hear back from other interviews?
