Does anyone who has gone to college and worked in mainly college-type jobs feel like then when they graduate that experience could be detrimental?? I have a master's in public health and it's been hell trying to find a job that 1. pays well for the education I have and 2. is something that I'm really qualified for. I have tons of research experience (mainly pharmaceutical), but because I'm not a nurse I won't qualify for positions. I did have an interview today that was an analytical position (most of my background is statistics) which could be good, but it's not exactly where I want to be. I just feel like I'm not being taken seriously since I've focused on education and did what I had to do to get by (as far as work was concerned).

Everyone HAS to start out somewhere. I don't know too many new grads today who start out at their dream job, or who initially make the amount of $$$$$$ they put into their degree, or feel that they are worth. If you can find something that relates to your field, where you can financially make ends meet (meaning enough to live and get by on), AND that will provide you solid working experience and a stepping stone to better employment down the road, you really are ahead of many people out there.

I'm not totally sure what you mean by "a college type job," but I personally haven't found any work experience to be detrimental.
