...on myspace?

There's going to be a series called Quarterlife about lost and confused twentysomethings. It's by the creators of Thirtysomething.

Might be good.

A few predictions:

-characters in expensive, Urban Outfitter-style clothes, only more expensive
-massive, loft-style apartments
-lots of "too hot for TV!" hook-ups
-lots of complaining about how hard their jobs in publishing are
-possible "The Office"-style handheld work footage
-at least one character has a band

I was wondering how long it would be before people posted about this, I've actually known about it for a while and at first was livid that such seasoned hollywood producers did not give credit where it's due. Then I thought, you know what, I'm flattered that they think I have such good ideas. Then I recently saw their joke of a website and realized that a) the show is going to be completely lame and it's their loss for not including the real quarterlife expert (moi) in the creative process and b) most ironically and incredibly tacky, their website purports to support the creative development of young struggling artists...yet they refuse to recognize the real creator (myself), who is indeed a struggling young adult writer! I hope all twentysomethings can see through the supposed altrusim of the creators and realize that they are only out to make a quick buck and don't give a damn about anyone or anything twentysomething-related. I urge you to ban the show and encourage your friends to do the same.

It doesn't look like it's about "us" at all.

Young people coming of age TV shows and films are kind of dime a dozen. I fail to see how this will be any different (and also doubt that it will avoid cancellation), but odds are good that we'll experience a new buch of visitors to the site, at least.

I agree. I'm really looking forward to checking out the show, though, to see what their take on the "QLC" is. . .

I feel pretty must past my QLC, so I doubt that I'll watch the show for that reason. I did watch the trailer, however, and it looks like there will be a lot of "relationship drama." It will be interesting to see how QLCers (posters here) respond to the show, if they watch it at all...

Slightly off topic, but did anyone watch the Spotlight 25 show when lifetime did it? That pissed me off because it wasn't really addressing the true issue of the QLC and only interviewed women that had business-corporate world careers. Wah! You make so much money and you can't get married because your future husband would be threatened by your success. Or you have to balance the work/family debate that your parents didn't have to think about. I felt like that didn't paint the appropriate picture of "us" at all, so I'm curious to see if this will show a different side to the 20-something life.

I just downloaded it on iTunes and watched it. I would have to say that of all the women they interviewed, I didn't connect to any of them. I felt like the special completely brushed over the debt issue.

I felt the same way. Thank you.

I didn't watch said show, but I think the debt issue, and even budgeting/finance for the debt-free among us is a huge twenty-thirty something issue, and brushing it aside seems questionable.

I originally felt like their companion site would be in competition to this one, which made me want to call out the posse. :p

But after reading the article, I agree with everybody else. It promises to be a lame dramatic farce.

I really hope that none of you watch it. And not to draw attention to their site, but what we should all do is create profiles on their site linking to ours. At least we should get some traffic out of it, if nothing else.

How funny would it be if we the show's plot lines come from the thread's on this site? If anything, if their website is really that shitty, it's only going to draw more people over to this site.

Huh. I'd never heard of it until just now.

Meh. I can't imagine it'll be different from many other coming of age shows, as has previously been mentioned.

Actually, even more than funny, it would be illegal - please take note. thanks.

It may reflect YOUR midtwenties, but most people's? For a show to work, you need universal appeal.

Oh, I get that.... but that was one documentary, right? (I'm not a big TV person, and did not see that show). Aren't they kind of supposed to focus on a random little sliver of the population and their associated weirdness?

wordsmith

Yeah, I didn't see it, either, but focusing on a small segment and billing it as reflective of 25-year olds in general seems sketchy.

I don't even think we should link to this page, because then, they'll rip off people's real stories.

They already have ripped us off. Lets bring them down. Every story or blog entry you see about the new show/site, be sure to link to quarterlifecrisis.com. Make sure everyone knows that quarterlifecrisis.com is the original community for twentysomethings, not a rip-off.

Why not just call this what it is: Myspace trying to take back post-college aged users from Facebook.
