Okay, so I haven't been able to hear out of my left ear for the past 24 hours. I've tried the q-tip thing, taking some sinus medicine in case it was drainage (very good chance), and put some sweet oil and cotton in my ear before going to bed last night. Any othe home remedies I should try? If it's still like this tomorrow or Thursday, I'll go see the doctor. Just trying to avoid that.

-I would recommend going to your local co-op grocery store, or any like alternative "hippie" kind of place, and purchasing an "ear-candle". Basically it's a long candle which you place through a paper plate, you lite the candle and lay down on your side. You should have someone with you while you do it, but it fills your ear with smoke and draws out a lot of gunk. It works really well. Just make sure you get the candle firmly into your ear, and take it out once or twice to make sure the end that is in your ear doesn't get too clogged up.
Sounds weird but it works, if this turns out to be an infection or whatever you still might want to do the candle thing later for preventative reasons.

I was going to suggest ear candling as well.

My boss does it all the time and it works well for him.

Ear candling can be very dangerous and there have been more than a few studies that show that it doesn't actually clear anything out of your ear.

I have horrible ear problems sometimes and I'd recommend a dilluting white wine vinegar and pouring it into your ear, and plugging it with cotton. Since it's vinegar, it stings-- be sure to dillute it well! Also using a hair drier sometimes works for me.

I got an ear syringe last night, and I flushed it out with some warm water. Still no sound. The candle thing scares me a little, and I wouldn't be able to have someone here to help me with it until this weekend, anyway. I really think it's sinus drainage, so I'm just going to continue taking this Sudafed for a couple of days. I'm sure it will help. If it doesn't, well, I've been needing to find a new doctor anyway (new insurance).

I really think seeing a doctor is your best bet.

This happened to an aunt of my friend a few years ago and she still has trouble hearing out of one ear. It happened to Rush Limbaugh and after he saw a doctor for treatment his hearing came back. Hopefully it just something simple.

I had this happen once. It was a buildup of wax, but it was easily fixed at the doctor's office. They flushed my ear out with a tiny hose-like thing and it was fine. The nurse did say that using q-tips sometimes makes the problem worse, though. I will give this advice, though. Make sure if they do this to you, that the nurse or whoever is watching closely so that they can stop once the clog is released.

This brings back a disturbing memory of something I saw on TV where someone was having trouble hearing and when they flushed his ear, a disturbing amount of wax flowed out. Ugh.

That's what happens and it is gross. I was shocked at how much wax came out of my ear. Not to mention the other stuff in the wax.

I had my ears flushed once when I was younger. I have sinus problems, so I'm thinking it's fluid built up behind my ear. I hope it's as simple as getting it flushed. I'll find out in a few hours.

If there's fluid built up behind your ear, flushing it isn't going to do jack. That will only work if you have wax build up. Maybe you have a sinus infection, in which case they'll give you antibiotics.

Yeah. I shoul have switched a few sentences around there. The third was an after thought of the first.

YAY!!! I can hear!
Got 'em flushed.
Also, I'm going to try that YAZ birth control. I had her write me a script so I could take it to the pharmacy to see how much it would run with my insurance.

Glad you can hear. I took YAZ for a short amount of time, and it totally caused havoc with my body. I've heard similar complaints from other women. (Granted bc is different with everyone though).

I have to get my ears flushed at a doctor's office once every couple of years. Yes, it's gross, but the doctor said that I'm just one of those lucky people who gets lots of wax buildup. *Shrugs* Getting my ears flushed does help, and my doctor assured me that it's not due to anything that I'm doing "wrong."

Ok, now I can tell the rest of my ear flushing story. The nurse wasn't paying quite enough attention to the progress of the clog. After it came loose, the stream of water stayed in my ear for a couple of seconds, hitting my eardrum directly. And holy cow, did that hurt. I never want to have to do that again.

Before BC - very irregular
After BC - very regular...and I can plan activities knowing what kind of mood I'll probably be in that week.

Yeah, she said that there are only 4 days of placebos instead of 7 in the cycle. My period doesn't usually start until the Wednesday after the Sunday I start the placebos. We'll see what happens. It also depends on the price and what my insurancve will cover. If it helps my mood swings, I'm willing to at least try.

Doesn't the cycle community frown on drug taking? Do you really want to end up like Floyd Landis?

Thats an interesting segue. From worrying about one cavity to a completely different one.
