I was contacted today by a recruiter who saw my job on Careerbuilder. However, it wasn't about whether I wanted a job; it was about whether I knew someone who wanted the job.. Clearly, since I had my resume on Careerbuilder, I was looking for a job, and it was also a job that I would want. Yet, she didn't want to talk with me; she wanted to know if I knew anyone. It struck me as quite tacky and poor form. If she didn't think I was a good fit for the job, she should have just ignored my resume. I'm sure that there's more than enough people for her to cold call on Careerbuilder/ Monster.

I would have described everything about myself in the third person and then gave her my contact information (perhaps even the same number they had just called me at). 8 out of 10 chance that idiot wouldn't have noticed. Recruiters use SOPs and nice clothes in place of their withered brains. You can't really expect any real-life social tact or grace from them.

I wasn't really interested in working with someone who just wasn't into me... I just thought that it was one of those recruiting horror stories that everyone was always talking about...

Here's another funny recruiter story for ya... A colleague whose advice I admire suggested that I make my resume a bit more general. (It was very job specific and took hours to explain to recruiters). I did so... And the next day I got a call from a headhunter who had been very snotty and suggested that perhaps I could get an "entry level job" in my field because I didn't have any experience. She was tripping all over herself to sign me up. Apparently, she didn't realize that I was the applicant that she had been so snotty to about a month earlier. (Keep a log of your calls or something... people).
