So I had an pre-admission interview for this small MBA program. So small that they actually have admission interviews. I really like this school, sat in on some of the classes, and want to get in. So I totally prepared for this interview saying everything perfect. The thing is... this so called "Dean of Admissions" just doesn't seem like he understood maybe 60% of what I was saying.

Its not like I was talking in code, I am from an Human Resources background and he seemed confused as to why I was pursuing an MBA. I had to explain to him that HR is moving into a more strategic management role within businesses and you need an MBA to be a player. Once again, confused, big words.

So I'm not sure how much of an impact he can have on my admissions. Being in a field where it is my job to interview people he didn't come across as the best interviewer. Luckily I am almost certain that the people who will read my admissions essay are different, but still, what if he does have a big impact on my admissions? Should I poke around and talk to other faculty about this?

SO Effin Excited

So in my frusterations I emailed a faculty member and got this response:

"First, _______ has resigned and you are probably one of the last candidates he is interviewing. You may be experiencing the side effects of his process of departing. Second, he does have a bias to people with backgrounds in hard sciences or technical professions. As a result, he has influenced the configuration of the recent cohorts. We are aware of this and are working on the redesign of the admissions process so that it is not dependent only on one individual filtering candidates but a more robust process performed by a committee that includes faculty and academic administrators. We are truly interested in diverse educational and professional backgrounds and what your experience in the for profit and nonprofit sectors would be very valuable to this learning community.

My personal view is that your passion is a perfect fit to what we are looking in candidates for our MBA curriculum."

So freakin happy
