Can't believe no one has posted about this, but Kanye's mommy is dead. According to websites, it was after some cosmetic surgery.

Why is the news covering this?

Condolences to him and his family, but she was not the family celebrity, she likely wasn't seeking any sort of fame, and frankly I'm not sure the public either wants to or needs to have not only garbage paparazzi coverage of celebrities, but garbage paparazzi coverage of their families as well. Leave the woman and her family alone.

Any time someone dies suddenly and unexpectedly, it's sad. Period. Doesn't make it any more or less sad that it's Kanye's mother.

No one said it's any less sad, but it's definitely not any more sad because she was a celebrity's mother. It's just not ground breaking national news.

That wasn't an argument at all with what Krag said. Just registering my thoughts. But I have heard something kind of new about it: did anyone else hear that she'd been given some red flags from a different doctor about doing surgery?
Here's a link:

If she had a heart condition and had been turned away by a different doctor, this makes it every bit as ridiculous as it is sad that she died this way anyways. What's more important; your tummy tuck or your life?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I just think that the nature of this thread so far has been rather disturbing. Someone lost their mother, and while I agree that this should not be national news, I don't think anyone should make light of it.

"Cosmetic surgeons don't like black people."

She seems like she was trying to a lot of good by helping kids who were having trouble in school stick it out.

based on the picture it seems as if she had been to the plstic surgeon at least once.

i guess this just goes to remind us all that there is never any such thing as "rountine surgery".

They're saying on the radio that because the autopsy was inconclusive they're now investigating whether it might have been a reaction to the anesthesia.

Totally agree.

I don't think it's a bad thing at all if the dangers of elective surgery get press...people tend to gloss over the fact that cosmetic surgery is still surgery, and still comes with risks.

I agree. If it's a story that brings a real issue to light, then it's not frivolous. It's when they spend an entire day, week or month covering it like OJ or Anna Nicole that it gets to be pretty stupid. Especially if it takes the attention away from other stories and issues that are just as or more important.

You can't really dictate what news people pay attention to, though, and what they don't. There's not finite news space, really. And if people are more interested in reading about Kanye's mom's fatal surgery than [fill in the blank with other current event], I think that probably says more about the readership than the coverage. Media runs with what people wanna read.

According to a related article the number of cosmetic procedures has increased 446 percent since 1997. I think this includes Botox, but it's still kinda scary...

Want to know more? Nip/Tuck. I'm watching the entire series on DVD right now. Among the best shows on TV.
