The "text or not to text" thread got me wondering. I am not really a phone person, and I usually communicate with a guy I am seeing through text or email to meet up but in person I am talkative and hold a conversation.

In the beginning stages of a relationship or even when you are seeing someone, I just personally feel very awkward talking on the phone. And even in High School I wouldnt spend hours and hours on the phone like a normal girl. Maybe thats cuz my older sister was hogging the phone and I just got used to it lol.

But anyone else like me? Or is it really important to talk on the phone when you are seeing them.

I think it depends on the other person. I personally cant stand to talk on the phone, especially with a guy. However, the guy Im dating now can somehow get me on the phone for hours at a time. Its pretty weird actually. Even so I prefer talking in person rather than on the phone.

I HATE this very subject. I am quite certain I don't ever have an SO is because I HATE telephones. I have a cell and absolutely cringe when it rings. About the only times I'll answer it is when this one girl I'm talking with calls, and even then would often rather not. Want to know how much I hate the phone. In July, I used four (4!!!) minutes for the month. Keep in mind I have no home phone...just the cell. FOUR FREAKING MINUTES. And I was probably pissed the whole time I was having that conversation.

HATE the phone.

LOL. Maybe there is some girl out there that will understand your complete disdain for phones. I think if i was dating you and you explained that upfront i would think it was funny. I dont think i would mind it if i never had to talk to you on the phone.

Ugh, I really dislike the telephone. When I was in high school, it was fine to call people and "chat" or stay on with my boyfriend for hours. Now, though, I hate it unless there's something urgent. I would so rather deal with texts and emails and face to face interactions.

Oh NOOOOOOO. No, no, no, no, no. Even if they SAY they understand, the SECOND you don't answer the second attempt to reach you after just leaving her apartment you're in all sorts of trouble. But if YOU wouldn't mind it, then I'm tracking you down and we're dating then.

It sucks when people from far away leave a message and are like "oh hey, just give me a call back." I don't have long distance....send an email...please...it's free...

I actually prefer voice chat over the computer, but not a whole lot of people are into that yet. It's nice, because it's like you're always "on" and know when people are there/willing to talk or not, there's no guesswork or phone tag involved.

this is a funny one..LMAO to myself. i cant believe people out there dislikes phone that much..i don't mind the phone at all and can talk on it for hours. i think that that was a good thing because it has made me realize how much time i can waste. now, if i find the topic of discussion irrelevant i easily get discouraged and just want to get off....still, i don't mind talking if i need to talk.

Do you ever watch The Office? A couple weeks back they were decorating for a party and Michael comes in and goes, "Grip it tighter (they're putting up a sign)...hahaha....fill it up...(they're pouring drinks)....hahaha." Then Pam grabs a paper from his hand....his one-liner notes with dirty sayings and she goes, "Put your mouth on it. How did you think you were even going to use that one?"

I'm in that sort of ridiculous mood.

Yeah me too. And that can make things really difficult if you are trying to maintain long distance friendships!

Oh my gosh, I'm sitting here giggling in my cube.

But back to the thread....ditto, I like communication. For some reason, I'm just not a telephone person. If there's something to tell me that doesn't require a lot of back and forth, I prefer email.

How'd they taste? :D

I generally don't like talking on the phone.. I like conversing in person.. But when the phone is all I have, I don't mind it too much...

I generally do not like feeling chained to cellphones too. It is only rarely that I engage in marathon phone convos. Usually I like to get logistics done and over to meet in person. Blah. I have more issue with guys that just do not communicate or make plans in advance or where there is this annoying push-pull of who is gonna call/communicate first... One guy I dated recently wanted to chat incessantly over email/msn before meeting up. I generally do not like being teethered to anything or to be distracted by such things... We meet-up now it is back to him trying to yick yak over email. Ugh... I would find endless phone calls and texts without meeting up in person pretty irritating too.

I HATE the phone. I HAAAAATE the phone. I love my friends and family, but I just HATE the phone.

It seems tho, that I feel lonesome when I don't keep in touch. Becuase I hate the phone so, I have definitely grown distant to good friends. Which sucks.

Texting can only provide so much "contact." I would just much rather go and do stuff with people.

I think being on the phone adds a certain amount of pressure to come up with something to say immediately. In person there are other things in the outside world to concentrate on, other than JUST the conversation at hand.

My phone calls with friends are as short as possible and to the point. I have one friend that calls just to chat, and I have to get out of that within 5 minutes.

I have dated women that know just to text me.

However, the woman I'm currently seeing has broken that. Maybe we are just that compatable, or maybe its that she just likes to talk. But there are no awkward pauses. Ever. And I've found myself talking to her for 3 or 4 hours, until we suddenly realize that it's 2am and we have to be up in 4 hours to go to work.

I've literally talked until my phone battery ran out. Then I plug it in, sit on the floor next to my charger and keep talking.

amen for sms! hehe i cant stand the awkrad silences.. text is much safer i feel esp in beginning stages hehe. plus no one else can listen in on you, but i agree with above, calling is ok maybe just to let them know where you will meet for example etc.
