lets says that you would like to teach at the college level in accounting or IT, how or where would you start to find out what is required to do so?

In order to become a tenured college professor at a university you would most likely need your PhD or doctorate degree in the subject or in education.

You would at least need a master's degree in the subject to become a professor at a community college or an associate professor at a university.

I am interested in becoming a college professor too, I am currently going to grad school to get my master's then I want to look in to getting my PhD. I know many programs expect you to work for several years in the field before studying for your PhD as well.

You could also probably look into going the community-college route. I don't think you'd need a PhD for a lot of the positions. It's worth investigating at least.

I also wouldn't spell it "porfessor."

LOL...I was thinking the same thing.

Anyway, I have a friend who teaches political science at a community college. He's got two BS degrees, and he's currently also going to school to get his masters.

I spent (wasted?) some time pursuing a job as a professor. There are too many people with PhDs, tenure is disappearing, and political correctness is increasingly a problem. Take a look:

I am not referring you to a specific article, but if you look around, you will see that earning the doctorate is a major ordeal, and being a professor is not as great as it seems.

This is about history:

In short, do something else. I know from experience.

Be prepared to play some serious politics. My dad is a professor- I have to hear all the time about budget cuts and who is getting what funding and who is throwing their weight around because they are on a power trip. Like a "real job" i suspect, but you are more or less stuck with those people if everyone has tenure. He can keep out of it for the most part because hes almost ready to retire but when he first started it would bother him quite a bit.

I'm not sure about what you need to teach IT, but in order to teach accounting at the university level you need a master's in accounting, and preferably a CPA designation. With this background you can start out at the "assistant professor" level.

The demand for accounting professors is huge right now, and only expected to increase. I am currently working on my master's in accounting, and I may think about teaching or more than likely adjuncting one day.

Anyways, I hope that helps, and good luck!
