Here is my dilemma: I interviewed with a company last week, it went really well and told them I would forward my references once I got one person's updated contact info. They said that was fine. The reference has still not gotten back to me and at this point its probably not likely that I will be able to track them down. It has been a few years since I have applied for jobs, and the likelihood of being able to get in touch with any other references from the past by this week is pretty slim. I know at least three references is ideal, but would two be enough?

Thanks for your input.

Who are you using for references so far? Can you give the # of an HR department where you previously worked?

A grad school director and a previous employer. The one I am waiting on was a mentor during grad school. They have all of my past employer information to call, I just don't have anyone specifically I can note. I suppose sending in the two is better than nothing at this point.

Yeah, I'd just send the two. I think at my last employer, they had a rule that you had to get ahold of at least two of the three references.
