I just got called into the office of my friend who hired me here a moment ago (she runs the website), and I got nervous. I always get nervous whenever I get called back. I don't know why; I haven't done anything wrong that I'm aware of.

As it turned out, it was a good thing. She was discussing a couple of ideas she had that would require my duties and writing talents.

Do you ever get nervous being called into the boss' office?

Yes. I just got called into the boss' office moments ago. But it was a positive, was given direction regarding a role here. So at least I still have options!

What did we do? Why do they hate us?? :p

Yeah...not as much as in the past, but considering that I am rarely acknowledged, I have that sense of fear that it's something bad.

I've just been really nervous because I haven't gotten anything written in stone regarding what my role is at work now that the program I originally worked for is no more. I feel paranoid a lot that they are going to just let me go.........I have other options in the works in case that were to happen, but nothing obviously written in stone. I would probably rather stay put for the time being.

I have that feeling a lot working here. A lot of people around here get fired; turnover is high in call centers to begin with. I shouldn't worry; they've had reason to do it, and they haven't yet. :)

I usually don't get nervous unless they say "close the door, would you?"

I never used to get nervous and was in and out of my boss' office all the time, but at this job, it seems to be a negative for me when it happens. I am starting to learn that it's usually not going to be a good thing. Thankfully it doesn't happen often.

Yea, I hate the door close.

I remember being called into the office a few weeks ago, as soon as my douchebag boss made his first move to the door, I knew I was a goner. And the walk of embarrassment out of the office is pure hell.

It's annoying, I just hate bosses that are around all the time. Makes me nervous.

I actually like it when a good boss is around all the time. Good leaders are uplifting and motivating. They make you WANT to work for them. If a boss is only talking to you when its negative, or because he HAS to - that's bad leadership.

I agree, people need recognition, positive reinforcement in order to do a good job. If a boss gives you nothing but negative feedback, why would you want to work for him/her?

It's to discourage you from expecting a raise.

I actually get annoyed getting called into the office...I'm not too worried about getting yelled at (usually, knock on wood:p ), but it's because I have to clear something up that got screwed up by other people messing with the communications process...i.e. people feeding the boss misinformation either unintentionally or for self-promoting reasons...pretty aggravating.

The CEO of the company said he wants to see me for half an hour after work today. He couldn't possibly want to fire me if he wants to see me for a half hour. Nonetheless, I've never had the priviledge of seeing him in his office, so I'm scared to death.

HOLY CRAP!!

The CEO of the company has asked me to help him improve his English. Whoa! This is big. Big big big big big.

As it turns out, the boss' daughter (who is my ultimate boss) is leaving to attend NYU. A replacement has been hired, but the CEO wants to take a more direct, hands-on role. It's about time! He also wants me to be sort of a mole, and keep him informed. I don't like the thought of that, but his intentions are good, so I can live with that.

The CEO told me the story of how he built one of South Korea's biggest companies by age 29 before he emigrated to America. I knew the man had business savvy. He's no slouch, he's very inspired and educated. He simply wants to learn English better as a way of being a better American businessman. Very laudable.

He asked me what I thought the biggest problem in our company was, and asked my opinion of our customer service reps. I made a couple of recommendations on how to help him learn more English, and he would like me to help him understand the Wall Street Journal. He said he eventually would like to build up the company and eventually post it on NASDAQ. We're a long way from that, but he's thinking high. :)

So I figure I stand to become the most influential person in this company. That makes me nervous. He also asked me what I'm making, so I'm smelling a possible raise in my future. Whoa!

Pen are you really worried about these encounters, or is this your way of bragging? ;):

Neither. I was so nervous, I needed to write it all down.

My calls into the boss' office are usually accompanied with phrases like "inappropriate use of internet"

the worst is when you get called into a conference room by your boss and there is a 3rd person in there... i had this happen once and knew what was going down so before they could start the meeting i said i was handing in my 2 weeks notice of resignation....they said they accepted my resignation and the meeting stopped right there.. i ended up working for another week or so and then they said there wasnt really any need for me to finish the second week..

i know 100% for sure that i was going to be fired in that meeting.
