I don't particularly care for Starbucks coffee myself (too bitter), I usually get a tall tea when I go there. Interesting though that they are leaning towards a "dollar menu". I heard that the "short" cup has been around for awhile, it's just not advertised.

I saw they're going to do free refills with this dollar cup. I'm already intrigued. :)

A 1.00 starbuck's coffee would be wildly popular around here, at least to me! I hope it does well in the test market.

Too bad I don't work above Starbucks anymore. I'd suck it up for the free refills LOL.
There's one near my new job, but I have to walk and cross over a really busy street to get there. Not worth it. I bring my Dunkin' Donuts with me on the train in the morning.

There's one at the outdoor mall I walk at every night. It's right on the way back to my car. After walking outside for half an hour when it's down to 20 degrees, you need something to warm up. :)
I recently found out that actual, honest-to-God coffee is not $5 at Starbucks as I had always heard. Needless to say, my opinion went up considerably. I pay $1.90 there for a venti regular coffee, which seems almost reasonable. :p
I like Starbucks coffee. They just make it too strong, like everybody else.

Every other store in Portland is a Starbucks.

The "unthinkable" happened here a month or so back when the Starbucks located in our local hipster neighborhood announced that it's closing, because it didn't successfully unseat the longtime popular independents coffeehouses it was near.

Dunkin Donuts should have counters, coffee should be $.50 and they should keep filling your cup til' you leave. And this from a guy who doesn't drink coffee.

Coffee futures are too high for that. And have nowhere to go but up.

I prefer the independent coffeehouse myself. I drink coffee occationally. I'll buy Starbucks coffee that are sold at grocery stores in the cooler if I need a boost, since they are stronger coffee.

I love the lattes at starbucks. But if I'm near and have the time, I'd rather go to one of New York's million and one coffee shops.

Here in Seattle I know of a place where you can stand in one spot and see 4 Starbucks signs.
I used to love Starbucks drip coffee, but had to give up caffeine. Their decaf coffee still has enough caffeine to make me feel like crap, it's that strong.

i find starbux annoying becasue the whole grande, venti - thing is rather pretentious to me......anyways at a $1 a cup, thier profit margin is a mere $0.87 per cup - dump your starbux stock now!!!!

I would still love to leave social work some days and open up my own coffee house.
I've actually seriously discussed this idea with my younger sister........coffee houses tend to do much better in the Hudson Valley of NYS, where she still lives, and where I am originally from. She sings in them at least once or twice a week, as well, and has a big following that come out to see her.
I've debated that if there was a way my husband and I could come up with the capital to open one up there, I'd make her the manager. I think it would be somewhat of a career boost for her as well and something she would be really good at since she does have a lot of small business management experience.............I guess only time will tell on that one though...........
Being married to someone who is self-employed, I am not totally naive about how difficult it is to start up something like this and keep it going successfully.

The independent coffeehouse I go to in south St. Louis came under new management recently. They sold out! They're selling advertisements on those little holder thingies you get with your coffee cup. Nothing's sacred any more.

There's this one spot in Houston where there are 2 Starbucks literally right across the street from each other...and it's not even a really busy street with 6 lanes or anything. It's pretty bizarre.

Lewis Black actually had a bit about this too, and he called it the end of the world. The only real purpose this serves is for old people who walk out of one Starbucks and say, "Do you know what would be good right now? A nice hot steaming cup of joe!"

When there's a chicken in every pot and two phones in every car
You'll be there, yes you'll be there
When there's Kinko's and Starbucks wherever you are
You'll be there, yes you'll be there
And when they make that movie of your life
And you play yourself and Kim Basinger plays your wife
And she's running right at you, and she doesn't have a knife
You'll be there, buddy you'll be there
